There are eaters who have comaraderie in spite of what one person thinks. Many eaters compete as a hobby or just for the fun of it.

why did he quit ? Because he is one of the smart ones unlike few at the corn contest who remind me of these greedy freeloaders that work at civil service jobs for 50yrs with no intention of retiring

$200 or more airfare from NY to WPB with no prize money in their hands is an expensive hobby

When Beautifulbrian was removed from the rankings all the so called friends of his from MLE should have demanded he get reinstated but instead the greedy bastards worried about their own selfish needs and did absolute nothing I say fuck em

i saw pic 8 which is the primary reason Bob Shoudt walked away from that joke of an eating club they refer to as major league eating. Him and Conti had a very nasty confrontation over debris in which he accused Conti of cheating and physical assault

Carmen- Does the reason(s) you stopped eating competitively have to do with the debacle at Nathan’s where they screwed up your total?

1126 – yes and no. I knew I had to stop, but the idea of leaving at such a high level seemed insane at the time. I was afraid of giving up some easy cash, and of course July 4th… Then the counts got screwed up, and all at once I was exposed to the superficialness* of what I was trying to be good at (basically who cares?) and at that moment decided I had to stop. My experience is my own, and I would without a doubt do it all again if I could. But, I got what I needed out of it – and I’m not sure what else there was for me to get. For me eating was always a means to an ends, not an ends in itself.

    * I say superficialness to describe my reasons to continue eating (more money, TV time, etc). Everyone finds meaning in different things – so I’m not saying that what eaters are doing is ‘superficial’. I enjoyed it – but couldn’t let myself just become bad at it. So I went out on top (lol #2 close enough).

Carmen you are truly one of a kind . This should be a lesson to those who kept competing when their time was up , Unfortunate that there are still a few that refuse to give it up. Forget the passion for the sport because they wont quit till they die
