AICE Backyard Burger contest announced

The announcement for the new AICE Backyard Burgers contest refers to another burger contest held in Tennessee:

Some folks may find it cute to eat a 2 oz hamburger. Those same people might also try and justify dropping their mini-burger in water and then actually it eat! (Pretty scary, huh?) Other folks, such as competitive eaters, Backyard Burger Inc., and the league of Real Food Eaters of America, believe that the words ” 2 oz”. And “hamburger” should never occupy the same sentence. It is this belief and conviction that Back Yard Burger and All PRO EATING PROMOTIONS announce their 2007 summer campaign against the epidemic of “Miniburgitis.” Unfortunately, a few misguided souls have been mislead into believing that a hamburger should fit in the palm of their hand. The southern United States has a reputation for eating their hamburgers with both hands because the big, juicy, delicious hamburger they are eating requires it!

There will be four qualifiers with the finals occurring on September 8 in Memphis, TN. Entrants are limited to one previous eating contest. Hopefully the mystery Memphis burger girl will compete.

From the commentary about these results:

“The Goose” has established himself as America’s #1 Competitive Eater and should be given strong consideration as the World’s Best Food Warrior. AICE Chairman, Arnie “Chowhound” Chapman who emceed the event stated that, ” Gilbert is the best competitive Eater in the World……….why else would Takeru Kobayashi and Joey Chesnut refuse to compete against the “Green Beret of Grub” . Also, states Chapman, “AICE has now established itself as the best group of Food Warriors on the planet Earth, and you can hear the grumbling of fear in the stomachs of our competitors…”

Toronto Star on Eat Your Face Off

The Toronto Star has an excellent writeup of the Eat Your Face Off contests:

With the salesmanship of Ron Popeil and the bombast of Ed McMahon, the heavily-sideburned Chapman is emceeing this competition, frantically barking the play-by-play throughout — “You’ve got to finish your milk! Your momma always told you, you’ve gotta finish your milk!” — including the two amateur meets, the first of which kicked off the entire show, right in the middle of the casino.

The wayawesome blog has a picture of the Nanobite burger on top of a Mt. Olympus burger claiming that the burger patty weighs .4 oz, and the total weight is 1.4 oz, only .6 oz less than a Krystal / White Castle burger.
