Today marks the 10th anniversary of Molly Schuyler eating 363 wings in 30 minutes to win Wing Bowl 22, her first of three triumphs at that event. Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, who has become famous recently for his brother's relationship with Taylor Swift, also competed in that competition and ate 65 wings in 14 minutes but did not advance to the second round.
Today marks the 20th anniversary of Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas' victory in Wing Bowl 12 in which she defeated Ed "Cookie" Jarvis in overtime. The Washington Post has a long article about the competition which also documents Sonya's ascent in the previous seven months after starting her competitive eating career in June 2003.

Steve Keeley of Fox 29 reports that Bill "El Wingador" Simmons was arrested in Nebraska on January 26 for possessing a kilogram of cocaine and 254 pounds of marijuana after being pulled over on Interstate 80. The five time Wing Bowl champion previously spent two years in prison after a 2012 arrest for cocaine distribution. His next court hearing is on March 2.
Club Risque in Philadelphia announces the return of the "Wing Pole" on February 11. The event was started in 2019 as a replacement for the cancelled Wing Bowl. In the two previous editions of the event, amateur only wing eating contests awarded over $2,000.

Bill "El Wingador" Simmons posted a tribute to the winner of Wing Bowl 2 and 3, Kevin "Heavy Keavy" O'Donnell, who recently passed away following a struggle with cancer. BreakingAC.com reports that Douglas Petock, who competed in the Wing Bowl at least 9 times using the "Obi Wing" nickname, has been arrested for sexual assault. His charges include aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, criminal sexual contact and stalking and could result in 15 to 30 years imprisonment.

Termination of Wing Bowl announced

Angelo Cataldi announced on WIP this morning that the Wing Bowl would not return in 2019 for a 27th edition. The Wing Bowl website has been rebranded as http://wingbowlforever.com/.

With the termination of the Wing Bowl and the discontinuation of the Hooters Wing Championship (July 10, 2017 purse $17,500), American competitive eating has lost two of its three most lucrative events in four months.@
