Wing Bowl category

5 time WIP Wing Bowl champion Bill "El Wingador" Simmons has published a book titled Snow on the Barb Wire about the path that led to his incarceration for narcotics distribution and his quest for redemption. He has also started a website at elwingador.com and a twitter at @elwingador. (via comment)
I do not have all the details at this point, but it appears that Wing Bowl 25 will have a format change that will lock out Molly Schuyler from defending her title.

Gawker.com competitive eating content

Last week Gawker Media sold its websites: Gawker.com (gossip), Deadspin.com (sports), Jezebel.com (women), Kotaku.com (video games), etc. to Univision after declaring bankrputcy following the loss of an invasion of privacy lawsuit filed by WWE legend Hulk Hogan for posting a sex tape without his permission. While the bulk of Gawker Media’s competitive eating content was posted on Deadspin, which will remain in operation, there were a few competitive eating articles on Gawker.com, which will shut down today (the fate of the Gawker archives are not clear):

The date for Wing Bowl 25 has been announced as February 3, 2017.

Angelo Cataldi criticizes Wing Bowl

On Tuesday, PhillyMag did an interview with Wing Bowl co-founder Angelo Cataldi who criticized the current state of his creation:

People who think that Wing Bowl is trash … have a point. Even we have grave misgivings about it. What it is now wasn’t the plan that we designed 24 years ago.

On Wednesday, Cataldi offered additional statements to PhillyVoice

“Wing Bowl will be here long after both Al and I are gone,” Cataldi said. “We have absolutely no say on the future of the event. It is owned by WIP (and CBS) and they have total control over what happens to it. If we had our way, would the next one — the 25th — be the last? Maybe. But since we don’t have that power, everyone can calm down.

“Wing Bowl isn’t going anywhere unless WIP says it is.”
