Cookie Jarvis gives thumbs down to MLE DVD

(From BeautifulBrian.com) Cookie Jarvis is upset that IFOCE used footage of him in the MLE DVD without requesting permission:

This is the last straw IFOCE! It’s no longer a joke and neither are our feelings. If someone requests an interview with us we have to first call the IFOCE and get their permission so they can profit at our expense. If the IFOCE wants to put out a movie with us in it they feel we don’t need to be told. Is that fair? NOOOOOOO!

I think its time for us to have a spokesperson on how we are treated and the events that our portrayed with our likenesses. I believe it’s also time for us to have input in what we are shown in. Maybe it’s even time for a class action law suit against the IFOCE because we wont take it anymore. This is an outrage!

Cookie Jarvis meets Japanese noise artist

The Boston Phoenix has a report on a screening of “JO” by Cameron Jamie. Japanese noise artist Keiji Haino provided a live soundtrack.

The show began in darkness. Haino chanted a series of ghostly moans; those and the votive candles lining the aisles made it feel like a séance. JO is a rumination on patriotism, with footage of a Joan of Arc pageant in Orléans, French right-wingers laying flowers at the foot of a Joan statue in Paris, and a Fourth of July hotdog-eating contest in New York.

Haino proceeded through mysterious plucking, ominous vibrations, chimes, turbulent strumming, Godzilla thuds, and rumbles. It sounded a bit like a slasher-flick score. He deployed 13 pedals to loop and layer the noise, building jet-engine blasts. He went silent while Jamie’s camera panned down a stout fellow’s jacket embroidered with a list of dozens of eating-contest victories. The seated crowd chuckled.

Cookie Jarvis wins Arkansas grilled cheese

The AP has an article (at abcnews.com) about the goldenpalace.com grilled cheese qualifier held Saturday at the Arkansas State Fair. The results of that contest are:

1. Cookie Jarvis, Long Island, NY, 19 sandwiches
2. Pat Philbin, Moonachie, NJ, 17.5 sandwiches
3. Michael Finnell, Sherwood, AR, 11.5 sandwiches (after 1 minute overtime to decide 3rd)
4. Christopher Tarleton, Corpus Christi, TX 10 sandwiches (lost overtime to Finnell)

With 4 qualifiers left, notable eaters who have yet to qualify include Joey Chestnut and Badlands Booker. (Hopefully Carlene LeFevre will recover in time to participate in the Phoenix contest) If Joey Chestnut competes in the Southern California Fair contest to be held Monday, it will be interesting to see if he challenges Tim Janus’ record of 31. (It has been rumored that Kobayashi will appear at the Southern California contest) The article mentions that there will be a finals contest at an undetermined date and time to determine the allocation of the $20,000.

Updated 10/9 3:55 pm The Arkansas Democrat Gazette has an article mentioning the contest.
