Don Chingon in Brooklyn has a request for people to attempt their burrito challenge today for Japanese television. This will probably be a segment for Battle of the Big Eaters 4 to be broadcast on Jan 1, 2017.
The Guardian has a report on the noodle eating contest that will be held in Morioka, Japan on November 6. Competitive noodle eating has reportedly been practiced in that city since the 17th century.
A Japanese manga titled "The Competitive Eater Who Leapt Through Time" can be read online.
Manila.coconuts.com reports that some Chinese consider Yuka Kinoshita's recent video where she ate bananas as an insult to their country. One viewer theorized that the 137 bananas Yuka ate was intended to be a reference to the Chinese population of 1.37 billion.
Vancouver.craigslist.ca has a request for Canadian competitive eaters to compete in the qualifier for Battle of the Big Eaters 4 in Vancouver in September. The selected competitors will face teams from Japan, the USA and another country later in the fall in Dallas. Entrants appearing in the qualifier will receive $200 and those that compete in Dallas will get an additional $500.
The Instagrams of Takeru Kobayashi and Maggie James are currently documenting their trip to Japan. Maggie James latest picture contains Nobuyuki "The Giant" Shirota, Kobayashi's rival in the Food Battle Club series.
Moeno Azuki won TV Tokyo's "Queen of Gluttony" program for the second year in a row.
The New Inquiry's essay about Japanese female competitive eaters titled "Little Big Eater Girl" is now available outside the paywall. The article has an account of Pat Bertoletti vs. Hitomi Sato in Battle of Big Eaters 3 along with short profiles of "Gal" Sone and Moe Azuki. The author also describes her experience with an eating disorder.

2016 Battle of the Big Eaters Teams

TV Tokyo has a page about the Battle of the Big Eaters program that will be televised on January 1. The teams:

  • USA: Molly Schuyler, Pat Bertoletti, Bob Shoudt, Tom Gilbert
  • UK: Adam “Beard Meats Food” Moran, Emma Dalton, Leah Shutkever, Marc
  • Japan: Hatsuyo Sugawara, Hitomi “Russian” Sato, Moeno Azuki, male I don’t recognize
  • Taiwan: Chien Shu, You Lin (?), Ming Che, Ya Lin

It is interesting that Taiwan got a team when competitive eating appears to be a lot bigger in other Asian countries (Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, …)

In a recent video, Yuka Kinoshita ate 5 one pound steak meals from Steak Gusto. She claims the total weight of her feast was 6kg (13.2 pounds).
Battle of the Big Eaters 3 is recording today in Times Square. Team USA appears to be represented by Bob Shoudt and Tom Gilbert. update Team Japan reportedly won its matchup vs. Shoudt/Gilbert Pat Bertoletti faced off against a blondish girl I had not seen before. update #2 Pat competed against Hitomi Sato. It appears Molly Schuyler faced off against Hatsuyo Sugawara.
Valerie Pondering, a blog by a Mormon missionary in Japan, was at a festival holding an eating contest in which an entrant required CPR from paramedics. She does not know the fate of the competitor.
For his latest video, "Furious" Pete Czerwinski has posted an excerpt from his 2013 tour of Japan where he faced off against female competitive eater Mio Takahashi in a noodle eating contest.

A casting call has been placed by a Japanese program (probably "Battle of the Big Eaters 3") for UK competitive eaters to face off in a qualifier in July or August in London. Four competitors will be chosen to compete in the USA.
It has been one year since Yuuka Kinoshita started her youtube channel on May 21, 2014. During that time she has acquired over 263,000 subscribers and 45 million views, by far the highest totals for a female competitive eater. Takeru Kobayashi faced off against Matsuko Deluxe, a transvestite with a listed weight of over 300 pounds on the Japanese network TBS earlier this week. The program includes clips from Kobayashi's Japanese and American competitive eating careers. The commercial he filmed with Sonya Thomas appears at minute 29 and Pat Bertoletti and Ed "Cookie" Jarvis make cameos at minute 33. The show concludes with a Food Battle Club style eating contest.
Vice.com produced a video of Japanese YouTube star Megwin eating spicy and disgusting food items.
The 2015 edition of TV Tokyo's "Gluttonous Queen" competition will be televised on March 29. Natsuko "Gal" Sone will face Hatsuyo "The Witch" Sugawara and Angela Sato.
