The amateur wing eating contest that was to have taken place at Phily Sport Bar in Runnemede, NJ Thursday has been cancelled due to lack of entrants.
The amateur-only wing contest awarding $1,800 that was to have taken place tonight at Phily Sports Bar in Runnemede, NJ has been moved to February 21.
Phily Sport Bar in Runnemede, NJ will hold a wing eating contest for amateurs only on February 11 awarding $1800 ($1000 to the winner). Entrants cannot have placed in any wing eating contest before.
West Deptford Patch reports that Bill "El Wingador" Simmons has been indicted on 13 charges related to his June 2012 arrest for possession of $8,000 worth of cocaine.
NJ.com has a report on Jon Squibb's quest to regain his Wing Bowl title and the Drexel University paper has an article about MBA student Anthony “Wiz-Kid” Wisniewski, who qualified for Wing Bowl 21 by eating a cow tongue in five and a half minutes. Dave Brunelli & Dave Goldstein tie in first Wing Bowl 21 Wing Off

Philly.com reports that Dave “Tiger Wings & Things” Brunelli and Dave “US Male” Goldstein tied in this morning Wing Off held at PJ Whelihan’s in Cherry Hill, NJ and will both receive a spot in Wing Bowl 21 on February 1. Tickets will go on sale on December 11 for $10.

Wing Bowl 21 will have a two tier system. In the first tier, three time champion Jon Squibb will face off against winners of five qualifiers to be held around the country. Other Philadelphia area residents will compete in the second tier to win a Nissan Pathfinder. The person with the overall highest total will win $20,000.

Wing Bowl 21 rules released – first Wing Off Wednesday

The official announcement for Wing Bowl 21 will take place Monday, but contest rules have already been posted containing information on how to qualify for the finals in Philadelphia on Feburary 1, 2013:

  • The majority of finalists will qualify by successfully completing an in-studio stunt. (Stunt submission form)
  • Five first round Wing Offs will be held at Philadelphia area PJ Whelihan’s. The first Wing Off will take place November 28 in Cherry Hill, NJ. The winners of the first round Wing Offs will then compete in a second round Wing Off to win a spot in the finals. An in-studio Wing-Off will also be held between two people who almost finished their stunt.
  • CBS Radio stations in Washington, DC “The Fan”, New York City (WFAN 660), Boston “The Sports Hub”, Chicago “The Score” and Dallas “The Fan” will hold qualifiers sending the winner to the finals. The regional winners will receive $200 and travel expenses.
  • Former champions Takeru Kobayashi, Jon Squibb, Joey Chestnut, Bill “El Wingador” Simmons will receive byes and not have to qualify. (It is likely that 100% of those invitations will not be accepted.)
  • There are no restrictions on “professionals” or non-locals.
  • The overall winner will receive $20000 and a Wing Bowl Champion Ring and gold medal. The top competitor fro the Philadelphia area will win a Chevy Camaro.

Eating contests held throughout football season

Several restaurants are holding eating contests that will take place throught football season:

  • Battle of the Bone 5 – Phoenix area Native New Yorker restaurants – qualifiers will take place on Wednesdays throughout football season – finals December 8 will award a trip to the Super Bowl
  • Court Jester’s – Aberdeen & Freehold, NJ – Weekly hot wing eating qualifiers during Monday Night Football – finals during Super Bowl will award $1750 ($1000 to winner)
  • Smoke City Market – Sherman Oaks, CA qualify for Jan 27 contest by eating rack of ribs
  • Two Stones Pub – Newark, DE – 10 patrons who eat most foot long hot dogs will get a spot in a Super Bowl party
  • The Whiskey Barrel – Gloucester City, NJ – weekly hot dog eating qualifiers will be held during Monday Night Football, final will be held during Super Bowl

update Jun 22 NJ.com reports that Bill Simmons’ bail was not reduced from $100,000. His sentence is estimated at 10-20 years if found guilty.

NJ.com reports that Bill “El Wingador” Simmons will have a court appearance tomorrow to seek a lowering of his $100,000 bail which has yet to be paid and that public defender Richard O’Brien will serve as his attorney.
