Chinook Winds burger contest video

(from Laura Flynn) The website for the Chinook Winds Casino, the site of this weekend’s rib eating contest, has a video clip of a “Big Bertha” burger contest in which the LeFevres and Joey Chestnut competed. I am not sure what year the contest took place.

update from Rich Lefevre The contest took place in 2007 and the top 3 were:
Joey Chestnut 9:30
Rich LeFevre 9:45
Carlene LeFevre 15:15, first competition in almost 2 years.

The contest took place yesterday. As stated, Joey finished the burger in 9:30 but what wasn’t mentioned is that I finished it in 9:45 and Carlene finished it in 15:15 (and we had plenty of room left for double orders of onion rings afterward). Joey eased up a little to give the old man a chance to catch up before closing me out. I wanted to take the time to enjoy it and used whole bottles of ketchup and Heinz 57 sauce and two diet cokes to wash it down. It was the best big burger that Carlene or I have ever had. As for the other competitors, none even finished half of it before hitting the wall. They claim that only two other eaters have finished the burger in the alloted time of one hour and they barely did it in the last couple of minutes (what wimps!).

Just a short note on the Big Bertha challenge: I really had an enjoyable time doing my first mini competition in 2 years. Of all the burger challenges I have done, it was the most enjoyable burger. I only wish I could have taken most of the hour so that I could relish each bite to the fullest extent, but my competitive juices got the best of me. As for Ryan’s statement that there have only been two women who have made an impact in competitve eating; I’m sure his mind failed him momentarily and it was just an oversight. It just goes to show how quickly they forget and brings the saying “out of sight out of mind” to light. After all, I did finish 7th all three years I participated at Coney and was ranked as high as 7th having beaten all of the other top ten eaters with the exception of Kobayashi and Sonya (including Rich who DID NOT let me win the Posole contest). Also, if it hadn’t been for Rich I would have had titles in watermelon, spam, corny dogs, chili and several qualifiers. I really have a lot of respect for all of the young guns who have brought competitive eating to new levels with their hard work and dedication to the sport. I think they deserve all they can get and more power to them!

You’re probably right, ILKR is my soulmate. Or maybe my evil twin? I still don’t know who it is, heh heh.

In these days of internet loving, you probably don’t want to know who ILKR is. Could be anything from a hot babe to an Eric Cartman type kid. Maybe he, I mean she, has an unnatural love for the fur coat you wore to the Vegas comp?
