Fan-freakin-tastic! Show Scott hom MLE does it Pat!

I see the article mentions Scott’s quote about him beating Pat, to bad the article didn’t print Pat’s twitter prediction on the same subject.

That’s because the press knows that Scott’s failure for not following through on his asinine prediction will garner much more attention than the accomplishment of a known superstar who simply states the obvious.

A couple of observations. First, I’m glad that this reporter had the journalistic sensibilities to cite that Bickel says that he will win, and not make such idiotic claims themselves. Secondly, I’m sure this local reporter called Bickel for a quote and hopefully he decided to shut up, surprising due to his tendency to talk to anyone with a pad of paper or a camera. Now that could be for several reasons. Maybe EATFEATS comments shamed this guy into reality. Or, like the the guy facing the electric chair, he sees the end is near and he might as well go out with a little dignity. Besides, Bickel, those who should be most embarrassed are the Cleveland area reporters who touted Bickel as the second of coming of Kobi without even doing a hint of research. Their credibility like Bickel’s will be shot.

“It’s nice to hear a young eater speak so confidently and it’s clear that he has the support of Cleveland sports fans.” – Rich Shea

One wonders if MLE presented Scott with a contract in order to do the qualifier and Scott told them “let’s wait and see how I do before I sign anything”… The Shea’s would be in quite the pickle not letting Bickel (bonus points for the sweet rhyme) compete in the town he is getting so much support from and having to deal with the possibility of bad press from Cleveland in not allowing their home town competitive eating hero into the Nathan’s contest to fulfill his dreams… Not to mention I’m sure MLE doesn’t want anymore press about a contract dispute.

Enter Deep Dish into the picture. MLE asks Pat to knock this kid off his high horse in his own city for making such a hoopla and not signing the MLE contract. So not only will Scott not be taking the Mustard belt away from Joey like he predicted he won’t even qualify to try. Now that’s what I would call poetic justice.

Then again, MLE really does call the shots and if they didn’t bow to Koby, Pete or Goose for not signing, then why would they make an exception for Scott “hill Billy” Bickel…

    sorry, just thinking out loud.

It’s time for competitive eating to the join the ranks of other sports and develop unique terminology. I’ll start. Bickel \bik-el\ 1. To make idiotic, boastful statements prior to a contest that ultimately results in utter failure and/or embarassment at an event. Used in a sentence: Scott said he was going to break the world record, but at the qualifier he pulled a Bickel when he puked after eating only seven hot dogs.

Has this Bickel dude published any sort of training numbers?

I think Joe Menchetti tried to help him, and was turned down, but also mentioned that he was somewhere in the 20s, without (Joe) knowing whether he was using cheap skinless dogs or actual Nathan’s natural casing.

It is time for UCE. United Competitive Eating. For one body to make the decisions over all of competitive eating. And I do not mean “United” in the sense of “United States”. I mean it in the sense of “World Competitive Eating”, but that sounds too much like “WLOCE”, and its “World Champion Dale Boone”, who is the eternal world champion, regardless of how many times he loses. In most “accepted sports” in the world, there is ONE body that makes the decisions. It’s ridiculous for someone named Dale Boone to be able to call himself a world champion, when he was NEVER one in the biggest body (IFOCE), while IFOCE doesn’t even NAME a world champion, and while Boone ALWAYS loses to someone like Pete, but still calls himself “world champion”.

If competitive eating is ever going to be taken seriously, there need to be some changes in the rules as well as there being just ONE governing body. Which excludes bodies like WLOCE (which states that Boone is ALWAYS the world champion, regardless of how many times he loses) and contracts like IFOCE’s which won’t allow its members to play in lucrative (but NOT for the Sheas….) tournaments, not ruled by the Sheas.

The way competitive eating is now, I could create my own “club” and make one of the rules that I am ALWAYS the World Champion. That’s just ridiculous.
