    They’ve got to be Nathan’s dogs, right?

    Been there and tried them. Dodger Dogs ARE NOT Nathan’s. Not even close. It would be like trying to say McDonalds hamburgers are the same as Krystal’s.

    Well how on earth is it okay for some eaters to get away with this and others can’t? Don’t get me wrong, I love Koby, and I’m not knocking him whatsoever. But there appears to be not just a double standard, but a multi-optioned one. Perception might as well be reality; it’s often observed as such.

    Well, to be fair to Koby, the article says the Dodgers only “reached out” to him to be a judge. It didn’t say that he accepted their invitation. Even if he were allowed to, I doubt he’d make the trip just to judge a hot dog contest. (I have to chuckle at the fact that he has to have special permission to judge a HOT DOG EATING CONTEST.)

    I gave up a lucrative offer from the Philadelphia Phillies triple A team to judge on hot dog night because they where not serving Nathans and I’m only a lowly;4th place finisher in 2001 Nathans paraded Koby like a God bringing out on a float for all to see the champ and displays him on their wall of fame , this is not right of him.

    I recall a report here that Hangman was suspended from Nathan’s hot dog contests in 2008 because he was a just a “Judge” at a small auto sales lot in his hometown. And Hangman has no contract with ifoce and was not even ranked.

    I have some experience with legal contracts, and regardless of how a person “participates” in an eating event, whether it be eating, judging, or as a guest observer, an eater’s presence at a given event can be construed as an endorsement of the food product involved.

    Whether an eater is actually endorsing the food or not, if it can be perceived in any way that he is, then there’s a problem if it involves a rival food product.

    Perception = reality.

    Does the IFOCE have a conflict-of-interest clause in their contracts with contest sponsors. In other words, a clause that says that they won’t accept payment from competing brands and do contests for them. If they do, I’m sure it has an expiration date or it’s only built into certain sponsor contracts (i.e. the big ones).

    The IFOCE did a Three Brothers Pizza contest in May 2008 and then a Famous Famiglia Pizza contest in October 2008 and then a Pizza Hut P’Zone challenge just this year. Not sure if the first two are competitors, but both of them are certainly competing against Pizza Hut in their respective markets.

    That’s right, good point!

    Something tells me that for the most part it’s not such a big deal to participate in “rival” food events that are not the mainstays of long-term sponsors of the IFOCE—-which HDBs (Nathan’s) and burgers (Krystal) are.

    To clear up matter Mr Munch & Ms Evans, the Hangman did judge the contest although he initially was supposed to participate. The sponsor of the event did not feel it was right to have such a world famous, top notch eater going against local chaps who looked up to him. Bruce kindly stepped back and took on the role of judge. Afterwards he signed thousands of autographs and took many pictures with his championship belt.

    Hungman OUT!

    this says that the dodgers reached out to kobayashi and you are all interpreting this as if he is involved in the contest. If it said that the dodgers reached out to president obama, would you assume that he was on the other end listening to them. let’s open our eyes here, people.
