Flashback: 26.25 lbs. pie poundage promulgated

Joey Chestnut’s 24 pounds of poutine is not the highest weight ever announced for a MLE contest. The initial results for last month’s Mapleside Farms apple pie eating contest in Brunswick, OH claimed the winning total was 26.25 pounds (in 8 minutes).

15 minutes after the first results were posted, the pie counts for all competitors were cut in half without explanation and the previous results were deleted. A screen capture of the MLE twitter with all the results follows

update Oct 23 In Maplesides Farms’ video, (results start at 3:30 mark) the pie counts announced on-stage (8.75/7.25/5.75/5/4.5) are double the official final results. Joey’s weight is announced as 13 pounds

The original counts were plates, not pies. Each 3 pound pie was cut into 8 slices, each plate contained 4 slices (1.5 lbs). Joey ate 8.75 plates, which was mis-communicated as 8.75 pies. The tweets were corrected.
