North Pole. An organic produce eating contest is an interesting idea and I will suggest it to Compassion Over Killing. There are more interesting vegan foods to eat. The organization that coorganized the event, Sticky Fingers Bakery makes fantastic cakes, cookies, brownies, etc without dairy products or eggs. They taste so good many of their customers are not even aware that those ingredients aren't used. I found it to be really interesting that regular eating contest competitors even heard of Compassion Over Killings contest. The magic of the internet, I guess. Given the people who showed up and some of the cool comments here I think the two communities interfacing was one of the cool things about the event.

Good job there buddy.
I bet those veggie dogs tasted better than the “Italian Sausage” we ate in Boston.
I just cant get over the nastyness of that crap.
That sure was not the “Premio” brand that they sell here in Cleveland.
I have had a veggie dog before and they are not so bad.
I mean really, that is what catsup is for.

My sites are set on August 23rd.

4 pounds of pierogies in 3 minutes.

Can I do it 4 years in a row.

Woops, sorry, I forgot that this was about veggie dogs. LOL.

Shit I’m hungry.

well, this explains the mad traffic over at the old flickr site, esp on the “Dag” picture. Thanks for the coverage. I haven’t eaten a hot dog, soy or otherwise in a way long time, and I have to agree that the texture does not make for easy eating. My friends and I tried one of the leftovers afterwards, and quickly decided that pizza was a better bet for dinner. Alas, we each only ate a piece or two, and nobody saw fit to take pictures.

beforewisdom – It is nice to see them giving it a chance and I hope they do more stuff in the future!! It does sound like it was positive and fun, although not everyone is a fan of the “veggie hot dog”. But that can be said for a lot of foods out there, so hopefully they wont be turned off by it. There are all kinds of food that they could go with that might get a better reception, like organic produce. When the food tastes good, and is consistent, the eaters will let you know. I heard many of the eaters at the Bowie Baysox Burger Bonanza comment on how great the burgers were, and even asked to thank the Chef personally.

I was a judge at the contest. I was happy to have regular eating competitors there. FWIW, this is the first time Compassion Over Killing organized an eating competition of any kind. None of them knew that there was a subculture around it with customs, techniques etc. Compassion Over Killing is an animal advocacy organization. They were only looking for a way to promote veganism that was positive and fun.

I love “Sticky Fingers”. They are excellent hosts. And thanks must go out to Compassion Over Killing.

P.S. Faux hot dogs taste remarkably similar to real (whatever that means?) hot dogs. Try them out, and rest comfortably in the knowledge that nobody had to suffer and die to make them.
