Adrian Morgan wins Jacksonville Hooters wing qualifier, Bello 2nd, Eater X 3rd

update May 6 Kerry Speckman has a contest report with pictures.

The 10:36pm comment noticed that Jon Bello’s 125 wings almost doubled tripled 125 the 65 45 wings he was credited with in the Augusta qualifier in April. I am not aware of any equivalent quantum leaps during a qualifier circuit. (Sonya Thomas 2003 Nathan’s 18 HDB -> 25 HDB, Joey Chestnut 2005 Nathan’s 20.5 HDB -> 32 HDB)

Announced Results:
1) Adrian Morgan 150 wings, Hooters circuit record
2) Jon Bello 125 wings
3) Tim Janus 124.5 wings

Kerry Speckman is at the contest and posting updates on twitter.

Bello doubles his count? Sounds like someone was employing the Chip Simpson patented bite and throw method. We really need to have these things weighed.

OJ – MLE corrected Bello’s count to 65, which is why I said doubled.

Thanks so much Larell and Damien I appreciate that! The only reason my numbers doubled is because I went to Augusta to try and tackle just the drums. When I found out there were flats/flaps/paddles/wingettes what ever you want to call it, I knew I was going to be in trouble because I didn’t practice those. I had trouble in Augusta with a couple of plates as well because the wings were pretty cold. I know how fast I can eat freshly cooked wings and I knew from the start i wasn’t going to well in Augusta.
With the information I had from Augusta I started practicing when I was confirmed for Jax. I practiced different techniques and remembered from Atrain’s contest his placing came down to cleaning the wing. The contest was in my home town so I tried my hardest to win. Both Adrian and X went thru more plates than I did,but I was making sure to clean the wings. Adrian came out on top (Congrats buddy), X, Boykin and I placed where we did respectively. I am by no means claiming to be a top ranked eater. (Watch for my totals in Nathans! Ha!) Anything can happen when it comes to highly technical foods such as wings. My performance yesterday is right where I paced my self in practice. So I don’t think I would improve, When and if X does another Hooters qualifier I’m sure he will kill it, probably shattering what he did this past weekend. Congrats to all that ate and especially Adrian good luck in the finals! See ya in Naples!
