Joey Chestnut repeats in Wing Bowl, will face El Wingador in WB 16

Philly.com reports that Joey Chestnut won the Wing Bowl with a record 182 wings. El Wingador announced that he intends to be back for Wing Bowl 16. The reported results:

2. Patrick Bertoletti 170 wings
3. Sonya Thomas 169 wings
4. Gentleman Jerry, 167 wings
5. U.S. Male, 138

Other top 10 finishers (amount at end of first round listed)

update radloffs.net had a much better live blog than philly.com. Steakbellie’s float was a giant can of “Whoopass” beer and Humble Bob’s float was of Joey chestnut roasting over a fake fire.

update #2 philebrity.com also did a live blog from the Wachovia Center

I rarely will comment on this site but great job by Pat B for his second place finish. I feel terrible for Humble Bob who is such a credit to the sport of competitive eating .I could only imagine what Sonya must be going through. I would hate to see what her apartment looks like when she gets home. I was not at the event and do not know the circumstances surrounding the shocking first rd knockouts, but from that outcome it shows what kind of a joke this contest really is

I totally believe that if the liberal credit for cleaning the wings given Jerry was extended to Joey, Sonya, and Pat, they each would have been near or over 200. Again, I wasn’t there but the bias is quite evident.

Sonya’s 169 is self evident that she is and always will be a great wing eater. I dont know what happened with Chip & Bob but remember this is not buffalo.Different type wings different conditions. Give Simpson credit he ate 158 and won in a buffalo monsoon. This is not to say the weighing process is any great shakes to begin with but it might have helped the names just mentioned . The reighning champ will always get the benefit of the doubt going into the contest and that goes for any sport boxing etc. If they think they will drum up exposure by Wingador coming out next year it might work but no way in hell he will win. He barely beat Sonya and that was not only a gift but a fix !

    let’s see?

none of y’all were there, yet you all assume that every eater must’ve had wings disallowed.

Come on people….. this “fix” bull shit is getting over blown.

has anyone considered the possibility that Sonya just doesn’t clean her wings? Ever. it’s the same stuff every contest.

    She’s still great…. don’t get me wrong. 169 is a hell of a total.

It is a known fact that Wingador does clean his wings better than any opponent he has ever faced in wingbowl however i dont think he has the capacity to beat Chestnut , Berotoletti or Sonya for that matter.

Yep, 169 is a good total, yet an inaccurate one. The vast majority of the meat from the 20 + wings not counted is taking up room in her stomach. And nothing from them counts? That’s exactly why wing totals are validated by weight. Then you minimize opinions. Then let me see how Sonya “The Black Widow,” Joey, and Pat do in a 30-minute Wing Bowl. The totals from all three of them would be nothing short of unbelievable. Those three would run away and absolutely hide from ALL other competitors in such a contest!

The IFOCE eaters that did not fare well in this contest have nothing to be ashamed of. If any of them were to challenge the local eaters or the ones that finished ahead of them in any other food category such as hotdogs, burgers or anything else they would recieive a thorough and complete ass kicking . The eaters that finished in the top ten just happen to live on wings wings and nothing but wings.

Wingador pointed out that the wings were tiny and fast this year, and he thought the 200 barrier would be broken. He must have been pleasantly surprised when it wasn’t, and decided that he has what it takes to win back the title next year over the top finishers this year.

Mr Lerman i apologize. I meant that it was a known fact in the 2004 contest where wingador finished third, that he did clean his wings better than sonya and ed jarvis who beat him .As far as the other years i guess you know better than i

Joey will absolutly Kick Wingadors butt. That giant slob needs to stay home and savor the memories of the good old days.

I think Wingador has a good strategy for wing bowl, because he probably eats gristle and all, or everything except bone. In wing bowl I think his max is about 155 to 160 unless theres O-T. But because of his eating style he probably gets credit for pretty much all of his wings.
