Joey Chestnut sets Wing Bowl record

Joey Chestnut (not Chestnutt) has set a Wing Bowl record with 173 wings beating Sonya’s record from Wing Bowl 12 by two wings. Rich LeFevre was second. LeFevre was apparently a crowd favorite. The arena was apparently only half full despite the sellout.

Hey Bob, what’s the story with the Banned Cups?

No real story here. This is the first contest that I made cups for. I was going for a certain volume and size opening. Then I customized them for the sponsor. However, it was decided to use the ones that were provided. My understanding is that they wanted clear containers to assist in spotting debris in the cups. So really everyone’s cups were banned, not just mine. I posted it mainly as an inside joke and as a way to get my youngest child on the sight.

Congratulations and nice work Joey and Rich. Way to represent the IFOCE well, there was never really any doubt though that it was going to be between Joey and Rich, I guess maybe unless you lived in Philly or you were smoking some crack. Nice job guys.

Wing Bowl was great. I just think its a shame Eater X was flipping the bird to the contestants as they walked by and was picking fights with fans in the stands some as young as 16. All the eaters complain about the Philly fans, but this just goes to prove the eaters are just as bad. Maybe next time he won’t be in and IFOCE shirt and full face paint making the organization look like a bunch of jerks.

Congratulations Joey and Rich, you are two of the greatest eaters of all time.
I wish I could be there instead of here where I have to compete just with myself 🙁 what’s my prize? a full belly LOL 🙂

I like this contest because it is not the typical less than 15 minutes contest, Richard I hope we can sit down one day to eat for hours, I know you are a marathon man like me and it seems to be that other guys are able to eat fast but also a lot in a longer time.

    Enjoy your prizes guys!

I’d love to do that. Let me know if you ever come to Las Vegas. I ate 179 wings, but only got credit for 156. My wingettes pointed out every little piece of chicken I left on the bones and I went back to clean them even more. Somehow though, I was still deducted for 23 wings (the meat that was left probably woulnt’t have fit into more than two wings). I’m sure the same thing happened to Joey as well but I do believe the margin of victory was nowhere near 17. The Philly fans were absolutely terrific. It took us over an hour to get out of the arena and another 50 minutes to get to our car as fans wanted to show their appreciation and have pictures taken and autographs signed. It was very heartwarming, indeed.

Rich , you never get your just due. A masterful job on your end at the Wingbowl . Gypsy is the best looking wingette of all of them even though her cleavage is not real. Im real glad you chose her. I saw the way you dissected those wings wed at the restaurant . A true master at work and an inspiration to all of competitive eating

Great job Rich . You are the master of competitive eating. I dont support the wingbowl but i listened to it on WIP. You never get your just due and i think its overdue. You have great taste in women because you picked Gypsy as one of your your wingettes

I dunno, Bubba, eating wings at Hooters could cause immense lack of concentration….However, If I make the Wing Bowl I want to enter carrying a Hooters girl on my back ( or on my front!)

L-con, flipping the bird to the fans was the norm for the wing bowl. Going out there I was flicked off by all of the front three rows. Everyone was having a good time, there is no need to call out someone like that. He is the exact opposite of dale boone it was pretty obvious he was there to have a good time.

Of course Richard, you are a great eater, it would be fantastic to have an eating challenge with you and of course with all of you guys. Brian is right when he says you don’t get the recognition you should Richard, how many has eaten two 72ozs steaks on one sitting on TV?
