I didn't realize till it was too late that when ever I was on my motorcycle I was clenching my teeth, and add in the sudden habit of grinding them in my sleep I really screwed up my jaw, and it still cracks sometimes, which is painful. I remember it was like the day after going to the gym for the first time in a month, not being able to move. You can slowly open your mouth fully, but then it takes as much time to close it again. If Koby is this bad, I don't see him competing. He would have to give up training in order to recover, and it will take months before he is normal, let alone able to train. It is possible that training at that point will only cause more damage. I don't know what types of surgery are available, since the Navy only offers asprin and an ice pack. I think Koby has earned the benefit of the doubt here. The man already said he will be here and that should be respected. But whether he is able to make it or not, that does not take anything away from anyone.. If it does, then we have a lot of insecure eaters who need to move on. I think any other world eater would do well to try to emulate the class act that is Kobayashi. Whenever he does leave the competitive eating scene no one will fully fill the void he leaves behind.
