I believe there was (or is) a legitimate issue with his jaw. But if so, there was not a worse food he could eat than fruitcake ---- an unwise choice of a food to challenge someone's record in. It would really have been awful (for Koby) if Sonya had been eating with him, because she WOULD HAVE broken her record, and at the risk of sounding like Luther, Koby would have been devastated losing to a woman. (He did anyway, in a way, because her record still stands.)
