In Shoo Fly Pie the payouts are through seventh place ($250). Now that’s the way it should be. Just because an eater finishes lower than third doesn’t mean he/she didn’t do a nice job. So reward that person with enough money to cover travel expenses and add a few bills in his or her pocket/purse. It’s good for morale, camaraderie, and the spirit, yet detracts little from the top three placers.

As a matter of fact, if MLE did this more often, it is likely that not only would there be far fewer complaints, it would also entice lesser known/new eaters to participate, thereby enabling new talent to be discovered.

I’d call this situation win-win, for both the IFOCE AND the eaters.

The grilled cheese winner’s name is apparently James Weiner. If that isn’t a name tailor made for entering a Nathan’s qualifier, I don’t know what is.
