“Masked Scheduler” on Glutton Bowl

TV by the numbers has a post by the “Masked Scheduler” who claims to have worked at the Fox network and wanted to televise the Glutton Bowl the day after the 2002 Super Bowl:

At FOX our head of reality Mike Darnell delivered to us a two hour special called THE GLUTTEN BOWL. It was a competitive eating extravaganza that had several of us on the floor in hysterics. Even our button-down CFO Del Mayberry couldn’t hide his glee when I showed it to him.
I tried to convince my bosses that if we promote this to tens of millions of drunken viewers in the SUPER BOWL, and aired it the following night, it would be a ratings home run. They preferred to promote ALLY McBEAL and BOSTON PUBLIC. After all we were going to find out that Ally has a daughter. How can America not tune in?

To be involved in gluttony you first must have the ability to perform gluttonous feats and Seiken was somebody who never showed promise. The Sheas and Fox were smart to leave that hideous looking smegma off the air.

You’ve been a fool to follow competitive eating regardless of the idiocy of quite a few of us. How normal do you think we can possibly be?

I heard that Seiken was 86ed from the show because many of the eaters complained he smelled like liver and sour milk and refused to compete next to him.
