Sounds very reasonable. I am ranking mine based on Krystal/Nathan weighted heavily, but also taking into account personal bests and head-to-head match ups. I noticed some people who I think are very good in all different kinds of foods sometimes don't do their best on the big day of the finals. Brown is a prime example. He can do very well and beat someone good like Crazy Legs easily in Blueberry Pie and Burritos, have very comparable personal bests in burgers and dogs, but then finish near the bottom of the barrel on the big day. Also you have someone like Monnachie who beats a lot of people in most all of the contests he goes to, but doesn't go too often and has never even attempted a Krystal. It can be very hard to judge, but this is how I had it.:

(1.)Chestnut (world record in Nathan's and Krystal's.)
(2.)Kobayashi(barely edged out in Nathan's w/ jaw injury, can beat anyone else in capacity and speed 99% of the time)
(3.)Bertoletti (beats Joey on occasion with uncommen CE foods. Very solid 3rd in Nathan's and Krystal's (besides Bob?)
(4.)Bob(does what it takes in Nathan's. dominates in Krystals over everyone else. Beats most others ranked lower in all foods. Tim is nearly an equal in most every food.)
(5.)Tim(Bob and Tim go back and forth from one contest to another. Bob wins the tie breaker since his win is most current AND significant (21Krystals))
(6.)Sonya(constantly proves she can compete in all foods and is getting better with speed. bob has gone back and forth with contests too...again his BIG showing at Krystals did it for me. tim splits with her too, plus he has gotten her at nathan's and krystal's now.)
(7.)Chip(busy with work now that he's out of school. still manages to do very well when he shows up. Barely lost to Rich and Hall in this one contest, but has beaten many others above him recently in other foods.)
(8.)Rich(beat chip by a small margin this once, but mostly cannot touch Chip. Very near Hall, but continues to edge Hall out by the slimest of margins)
(9.)Hall(This year he has shot past everyone ranked lower than 8. clearly is very comfortable at capacity and favors those contests. He has been right with Rich this year, but has not quite overtaken him yet.)
(10.)Juliet (has beaten most people currently ranked below 10th. unfortunate slip at krystals losing to crazy, erik, etc.
(11.)Erik
12.Moonachie
13.Crazy Legs
14.Tim Brown
15.Arturo
(I continued to 20)
16.Allen
17.Brad
18.Wing Kong
19.Brian Subich
20.Russ Keeler
21.Juris

My hands need a rest. If you want more explinations on others, ask and I will be happy to explain.

Pat from Moonachie, you are an incredible eater. I say that by looking at your track record and seeing how well you have done. Despite not too much recently I personally believe you are a top 15 eater without question even now. I know I will be voting for you as such.
Rhonda, I think you are right on. It gets so hard to figure out who is better when most people don't run into each other very often. Krystal's and Nathan's are the easy ways to vote simply for the reason that everyone can be compared directly in those contests. So these two contests make the easiest way to rank, not necassarily the most complete or correct. Who is your top 15 Rhonda?
Same question for US Male, Mega, Pat, etc.

If you guys want to vote you can go to Hall's website and vote for top 25 eaters. The field is getting so good now it is hard to pick who is ahead of who. There are just so many good eaters now. I think the top 25 will change a lot this time! My prediction is 7 people will break into the top 25 that are not there now.

My logic about rankings is this: Yes, they should be a snapshot of where an eater ranks among his peers at a given moment in time. But a person's placement in the rankings that are predominantly determined by his placement order of finish in one contest does not reflect this. That snapshot is but from one angle, biased by one's performance in the most recent major event. This is flawed. It would be different, if, say, Krystals (always 8 minutes) or Nathan's (always 12 minutes) were the only contests in the IFOCE repetoire, but this is hardly the case.

Like track and field (T & F), CE is comprised of many different kinds of food (T & F events) at numerous time limits (T & F distances). Therefore, in order to be a complete snapshot, rankings should be based more on a 6 month- or 1 year-moving average, reflecting eater finishes in contests involving many different food types and durations.

This moving average, by its very mathematical and intuitive nature, inherently does give more weight to more recent events, while still capturing performances within a given time window. It's the only fair, unbiased, legitimate way to rank performers. I'm certain the IFOCE is re-looking at this. I just know they must be, because they're smart people.

Personally, I don't think qualifying totals should count at all -- period! Why should an eater stick needless calories in his body if he eats enough to win in a contest where he isn't pushed? Also, if an eater is way behind in a qualifier and hasn't a snownball's chance of winning, same thing.

Yeah, they'll probably be on the new list when the IFOCE releases the new rankings next...summer?

Moving the ranks around because of placement in a qualifier wouldn't make sense. For example, not to single out anyone, but Kevin Ross did take 3rd place, but it was with only 30 Krystals. Rick placed with only 21 and 24 burgers. I wouldn't agree that those totals are sufficient to suggest that the rankings should be changed.
