The new poll asks who you think is better off signing the MLE contract. My understanding of the standard contract (which might be wrong) is that signees give up not only the right to participate in non-MLE eating contests and challenges, but cannot earn money from food / restaurant marketing without permission. In return, they receive a higher chance of getting contests spots, a ranking and travel expenses, but get nothing guaranteed.

I wouldn’t sign without some guaranteed $$$$. Rankings mean shit. Getting into contests means shit, they need good, but not great eaters to make Joey look good with trouncing some local bums. Travel expenses, who ever got those, except the top 5 or so eaters?

I think it depends on the person. If someone is only in it for the money, it’s probably not advantageous to sign if you’re outside the top five, nor is it wise to sign if you don’t want to become MLE property, regardless of how talented you are.

Those who may find it beneficial to sign include eaters of any rank who just want a little publicity once in awhile. Also included would be lower-ranked up-and-comers who need the IFOCE’s help to make a name for themselves as they ascend the talent ladder. Once their “careers” are launched they can refrain from signing a second time, after which they can enjoying the freedom of eating where and when they want, and still make money.

When the original contract came out in 2001 it was designed to draw in the weak minded . In writing it made it appear as though you would become an active performer with the organization and the media would be knocking at your door with a small nominal percentage rate in commission paid to the IFOCE. It looked like a win win situation for the eaters and if you showed the contract to an attorney they would even agree it sounds too good to be true . Glutton bowl spending money airfare etc was a nice incentive but that was all taken care of by FOX network . FF to 2014 and ask yourself has it stood the test of time to your benefit? You make the call

Rhonda unless you personally signed a contract , you are voicing your opinion on speculation only. Although you might be correct on some aspects there are a few flaws in your assumptions. I can speak from personal experience . There were a few times and trust me when i say few i mean few, that some members were offered media spots with guaranteed $$$ and the Sheas were not as greedy as everyone makes them out to be. Lets just say in one isolated incident that they were aware of the media spot offered and did not ask for one red cent from the performer. However the amount of $$$ offered to the performer was anything but six figure digits Matter fact not even close Matter fact not very much

I love the way George says in the Hungry movie “How much is a lot of money to you ? ” 30 thousand 40 thousand? ” Gotta love the way he throws these big money figures around but does anyone ever see that kind of money besides Joey? The missing link to making the movie a sure fire success would have been audio of Jim Norton from Opie and Anthony at the end of the movie “Effluvic actions cannot be tolerated “

    11:49: It’s my opinion, only.

My opinion is not based on the “greed” of the powers that be. It is centered on money, freedom, and publicity, from the standpoint of the CEers, as a whole, as I see it.

Sure, I could be way out in left field. I am, often enough.

I think George and Rich Shea should be commentators at the World Series of Poker tonight even though they probably know nothing about the game i think they could give it the ole improvise job. Matter fact i would like to see the top ten eaters in MLE go against the top ten in WS of poker tonight in Las Vegas and not in eating but gambling I bet Joey Matt and Sudo would fall flat on their face with Sonya the only eater with some gambling experience saving the table

I totally disagree 11:27 If Stonie put all his dedication and efforts into poker playing the same way he stuffs food down his mouth he would become a champion player and make tons more money I say lets convert these eaters into pro gamblers and let the Sheas look for other talent in the AICE . We need US Male take on this since he is a champion poker player
