Pat Bertoletti breaks Acme Oyster House record

IFOCE.com reports that Pat Bertoletti broke Sonya Thomas’ Acme Oyster House record by eating 53.5 dozen oysters in 48 minutes. Sonya Thomas set the previous record when she ate 46 dozen in a 10 minute record, then ate an additional 6 dozen following the awards ceremony.

Does anybody know the date of the 2007 acme oyster contest? That is the contest I want to enter above all others. Because raw oysters are absolutely my favorite food and if I can excel in any contest, it’ll be that one. The thought of getting to eat hundreds of dollars of oysters for free practically brings a tear to me eye; heh heh. I’ll be so bummed if I can’t get into it.

What happened to Pat? Even ST could eat more than that in 48 minutes. I think he simply had an off day because he had no competition.

He was going for the longform record, so he didn’t bother eating super fast, since it wasn’t a speed eating contest. He chose to enjoy himself and eat at a reasonable pace. What’s wrong with that? I don’t think that counts as an off day!! 642 oysters!! To me, that’s incredible. . .

    Luther what are you smoking?

53.5 dozen oysters is an amazing amount of oysters. If anyone here has ever seen these oysters they know that these things are huge in comparison to the normal size oysters. I would guess over 2 gallons of oysters were consumed maybe more. Also when breaking someone elses record it is usually considered good form to break it but not absolutely bury the thing if your going against yourself and not in a competition. Good job as always Pat, many of us here know how amazing that was.

Kevin it probably hasn’t been decided yet. But evidently there will be one this year, based on the tone of the IFOCE entry about Pat’s accomplishment setting the long-course record.

I personally wish that were a bigger event, clout / money-wise, since it seems all the current IFOCE “majors” involve similar foods — hot dogs, brats (another kind of dog), burgers. (All of them are in the sandwich food family.) There is no representation — among the majors — for a seafood, veggie, fruit, pastry, pasta, or high protein meat.

Just 3 or 4 years ago, the four majors were Nathan’s (Dogs), Acme (Oysters), (Buffalo Festival) Chicken Wings, and Turducken / Thanksgiving Dinner. The prize money wasn’t there, but at least more food types were represented.

Perhaps this should be an IFOCE resolution for 2007.

So how can you truly jusge

Bubba I think Luther is off his Ritalin. Even 12 dozen seems like a lot to me, and 18 – 20 dozen seems hard to imagine. And when you start talking upwards of 20 dozen, even in an hour, it’s just unfathomable.

It seems that many eaters are so good that their talents are simply taken for granted, to the point that if they don’t set a world record in a totally dominant way (in one’s warped mind), then that eater is suddenly sub-par. It’s would be like saying that Koby was losing it when he”only” ate 44 dogs at Nathan’s in 2003, or that, after scoring 60 points in a recent Washington Wizards victory in LA over the Lakers, Gilbert Arenas was sliding because he doesn’t duplicate or exceed that effort every night.

    Let’s get real!

Luther or whoever his real name is, is trying to fuck with your heads. He does this everytime he posts his retarded comments . For any of you to actually take him serious is an insult to your intelligence. Ignoring him is the best possible solution.

You’re probably right Rhonda. The IFOCE must be in talks to do another oyster contest considering the tone of their current story of this recent record. You’re right, it would be nie to have more veggies, grains, seafood represented in major contests. Especially for people that me that don’t eat things like brats, hotdogs, and hamburgers in normal life. I’m actually really surprised there hasn’t been a major sushi contest yet, since it is such a popular food. My prediction for the future is that a sushi contest will become just as big as the hamburger contest.

The 46 dozen in 10 minutes is 1 oyster every 1.08 seconds. That’s just insane.
