Looks like Gravy will have his work cut out for him in Chi-town.

Let’s speculate. If Patrick ate 30 in his first contest, he’s bound to improve, but by how much is anyone’s guess.

Not by much, Rhonda. He practiced first. Duh!

I say he decreases by 2. Beginner’s “luck”. I think Gravy will be watching him like a hawk. Nothing funny will happen in Chicago. Gravy is too smart for that.
I think Gravy eats 29 and the other guy eats 28.

Contests themselves are the best form of practice. The man will improve. As good as Gravy is, Patrick will be able to spot him at least two dogs and still claim victory.
Patrick … now don’t make a fool out of me. Ya hear!

Rhonda,
You’re right. Patrick wins 28-26.

I think Gravy has this one. He has more table experience under his belt and could easily have improved to the 30 Dog level. I dont know Patrick Vandam, but my guess is we may see him in Coney anyway. I’m deeply impressed.

What an uninformed fool that reporter is to say Patrick must have had a bad day to only do 30. Shows he knows nothing about competitive eating or its history. I think I would have answered that question quite differently if I had been him.

30 is a lot…Gravy is great, and seems to be able to eat whatever he has to (barely) to win. BUT, I’m picking the new dude – 30 in your first effort? wow! One quantifier on this qualifier: the “pressure” in a tight contest could make VanDam vanpuke..
As a master at losing my concentration, I know hearing the guy next to you is one ahead, or even, or slaughtering you (my usual case) can make anyone forget technique, and cause major gaffes, gulps, or gagging. I hope not.
However, I’m rooting for Tim, he’s a great guy, and I know he will be ready, and well-dressed!!
