Can all the other eaters better than me follow Chips lead and qualify before I try so I have less to worry about. Thanks Chip!

Congrats to Chip Simpson. Almost double the total from last year. The bar has been set HIGH. Who is next? What are the odds makers calling for at the next event in Las Vegas? Looks like Koby may have to tack another 10 or more to his total to compete with some of the other eaters this year.

Again Congrats to Chip Simpson. Job well done.

    Chip continues to impress!
Apparently he was the ONLY eater at this event though? NOBODY else has a total or even a mention?

The qualifiers are supposed to be 25 point events, so presumably the top 10 finishers will eventually be released.

The second place finisher ate 14. 3rd place finsher with 13. It was pouring down rain during the event and the wind was literally blowing hot dogs off my plate. Several times I had to reach down and pick up dogs and or buns off the ground so there would not be any debris beneath me. We were lucky to get the contest in though. Everyone at Nathan’s was as usual top notch. Good luck to everyone else in their qualifiers. I chose this qualifier because I will be out of the country for most of the qualifiers.

    is it “Burger”? “Beef”?

    is it “The Phenom”?

    (copy and past from Majorleagueeating.com)
Chip has accumulated nicknames almost as rapidly as he has titles, including “ChipBurger,” “Chip Beef,” “The Phenom,” “The Simpsonizer,” “Gravy,” “Leviathan,” “White Lightning,” “Mo Cheeks,” and “Thunder Jaws.” He recently earned yet another nickname, “Hoover,” for his patented technique of vacuuming up food with little to no chewing. Simpson says the inspiration for this technique came from watching the voracious Giant Anteater, which eats up to 30,000 insects per day.

    Chip,
Were you the only ranked Eater at the table?
It’s pretty impressive to be able to push yourself to within kissing distance of 40 without any serious competition to push you hard.
    Nice Work.

Chip your a class act . You come to the table to take care of business like a true soldier. Great eaters never have to put on a big show and you have proved that you are a great eater. Best of luck at Coney.

Congrats Chip. Only two people have ever eaten more hot dogs in 12 minutes so far and there is still a lot of time to improve. I was hoping to go to Florida again this year but ticket prices and hotels were rediculous for me being Spring Break.

This years contest was a month earlier than last year, the weather was perfect last year. But it seems like you do well an monsoon type weather conditions, remember the Buffalo Bowl? Sounds like the same conditions.

Some eaters “take it easy” during qualifiers if they’re not facing A-list competition or they know they’ve got first place locked up. Not Chip Simpson. Personally I think every eater should eat as much as they can and push themselves as hard as they can no matter who they’re facing. Unlike other sports, in competitive eating there’s no such thing as “running up the score.” It’s a respect thing, and if you respect yourself, your competition, and the fans, you have to turn it loose every time!
