St. Pat’s Chowdown Day 1 – spoilers

Please place all comments about Day 1 of the Saint Patrick’s Day Chowdown in this thread. I will refrain from posting results from the Chowdown on the main page of the blog until 8 pm eastern Saturday, so you can avoid seeing any results there if you do not want to know who won when you watch it on televison. I have turned off listing the start of a recent comment in the sidebar so no results will be listed there.

Update There is now a comment about the first round results from an anonymous poster, so do not read the comments if you do not want to know how that turned out. Kobayashi did not appear due to his mother’s illness.

update #2 wtoctv.com has an article about the contest. Neither results nor Kobayashi’s absence are mentioned. The picture above shows that Kobayashi was not near the middle of the table. The article does say that 8 eaters were present, so an alternate might have competed.

update #3 (From The Hangman) A gallery with some pictures of the contest can be viewed at http://pixels.savannahnow.com/pages/gallery.php?gallery=310735 The pictures do not give away who advanced to the next round. Badlands Booker was apparently the fill in for Kobayashi. Conti served as a commentator. It would interesting to know what was on the bottom of the sign that read “Sonya Will U …”

Update #4 savannahnow.com has an article which does list second round advancers.

Update #5 (From The Hangman) A video Conti and Eater X on a local news show performing a donut eating exhibition can be seen at http://www.wtoc.com/Global/category.asp?C=95545 (Click on “Eat Like a Pro”, Internet Explorer only)

OJ I would think that if you (or anyone) even know about the results prior to air time on Spike tomorrow night, then that means someone in the IFOCE has leaked information for which they could be fined. I am not certain about this, but if it is anything like the U.S. Open was, the television rights have already paid for and contractual requirements dictate that the results not be made public early.

GJoe made mention of this earlier and I agree with him. He’s a pretty smart cookie, even if I disagree with some of his statements.

I hope the MLE will give one of the fine GA Eaters a shot to fill the space. It’s a shame they wouldnt have enough notice to train, but life is like that sometimes and you have to jump at your chance. I’m pretty sure BONEBREAKER said he even had a costume picked out already. Larry or Bubba would be great too.

Of course I would have no problemo hoping the Shea Communications Corporate Jet for a last minute throwdown!!!!

Kobayashi did not show up. Pat and Joey tied for the first round lead. Sonya and Chip also make it to the second round.

Eater X and Crazy Legs were interviewed on WTOC 11 this morning and they talked about the contest while eating green doughnuts. Here is a video that is 3 minutes long. Eater X was Crazy Legs coach during the shot.

Look for video titled “eat like a pro”

Maybe OJ can post a better link to the video

Even though Bob Shoudt has had a bit of dificulty since he destroed all others in meatballs, he and Chip Simpson are two of the greats. I really think Bob is holding out for a 55 dog stuff at Nathan’s so why show his hand now. Great strategy I think.

OJR You might have to settle for me this afternoon since I see no other replys. I do get on Sonya and Juliet quit a bit but I guess they do deserve some credit. I am happy today because Chip Simpson is doing well in Savannah.

Watching the first round on SikeTV it was clear by the looks on the faces of Sonya and Chip that the anouncement of Eater X in 4th Place was not right. on camera, Chip was very much protesting as the top 4 were being announced and Sonya was trying to calm him down.

After they came back from commmercial they tried to say a for the first time ever there was a recount and one tiny piece of wilted cabbage that did not make the scale made the differnece and that miniscule amount made all the difference between Eater X and Chip Simpson.

With recent protests against Sonya and now Eater X about the offical weigh in afterwards, it looks like 2007 might be called the year of the scale as more of these final results are looked at very carefully.

Will there me more and more protests being filed after the results of many future events? Only time will tell.
