9 pounds is filthy. Too bad he will be denied a crack at Koby due to principle.

Nobody is denying him a crack at Koby. If he signed an IFOCE contract and didn’t do anymore AICE contests, I think MLE would welcome him with open arms since he’s obviously very good. But that’s just hypothetical and, I’ve never spoken to him, but I would wager that he would not be interested in doing that. Just saying he could if he really wanted to, but he would have to give up doing anything but IFOCE contests.

I’d like to think that’s the case Kevin, but why would the IFOCE welcome him with open arms? They’ve shown that they have no tolerance for anyone with AICE ties. It’s a shame though. They should look to AICE as a proving ground for great talent rather than seeing them as a “rival organization.”

Good job to all. And Carey Poehlmann with another strong showing. Keep an eye on this guy. He’s got potential. As for Goose, it’s hard to say what he can do versus Koby. Maybe he should eat some Nathan’s dogs in a trial run to find out!

Kobayashi is the best. You’re jokers to even entertain the idea that the goose (lowercase on purpose) can beat him. Let’s focus on the IFOCE’s best for now. They are The Great Kobayashi’s most formidable challengers.

Anonymous, they’ve show no tolerance to people with AICE ties and, honestly, for good reason as it is a clear conflict of interest and some bad blood there as everyone knows. But if someone defected and broke all ties with AICE, then that would be a different story, as they would no longer have AICE ties. BTW, I did not mean to imply that goose has a serious shot at Kobe. Just that he could probably TRY if he wanted to if he totally removed himself from AICE (though I guess how would he prove he was really doing that; it is possible IFOCE just wouldn’t believe him even if he really meant it). Goose seems to have a good thing going for himself anyway. It’s probably fun to be number 1.

Goose tried to get into Nathan’s this year. But as many have guessed, they won’t give him a shot.

Remember, Goose hasn’t even hit the 1 year point in his CE “career.” I remember a certain Mr. Chestnut who had a similar first year. And Goose will do for AICE what Chestnut (and Koby) did for IFOCE. Everyone needs to step it up a notch, or be left in the dust like the old-school guys have been.

Kate Westfall does deny people the chance to compete in hotdog competitions, otherwise I’m sure that Gilbert idiot would have tried. (Although it does seem that everyone on the internet already knows everything about him already). Sort of like how Major League Baseball doesn’t allow players from Japan, or how an NFL team is prohibited from ever signing an Arena League player. Only by keeping everyone segregated can the integrity of competitive eating be maintained

As already mentioned, the cool thing is you can always go to the grocery store and know exactly what you can do without having to show up at a competition. Down side is it ends up costing you $30 rather than having the chance at $10 000. But then again we all know Ichiro Suzuki and Kurt Warner could never compete at the highest level

(Butch) Goose is very, very good. I like the fact that you compared Goose in his affiliation and Joey in the IFOCE. It is tough to make comparisons across different leagues, with a few exceptions.

KevinRoss, you don’t know what you are talking about. The IFOCE would not give him an oportunity to sign a contract because he participated in an AICE event. There were no “open arms” when Kate recently kicked him out of a qualifier, what, the morning of the event? That right there is denying him his “crack at Koby,” even though he was showing intent to “break all ties.” So, what is the clear conflict of interest for the IFOCE when this is a chance to pull the best eaters around for their organization? Will the public talk about how someone did a contest sponsored by another organization years ago? Sure, you are going to say that he just did the strawberry contest, and that wasn’t along time ago, but that was only because he was kicked out of Nathans. Fact is, this is the Shea way of policing the eaters already in the IFOCE. They don’t want to give anyone that already eats for IFOCE an idea that it is ok to participate in another league’s event, thinking that they can easily come back at free will to do an MLE event.

Tom G, I hope your eating ability is better than your attempts at sarcasm. I was ready to jump all over you until I got to the Ichiro part.

  19. KevinRoss said

Carey, the truth is that Goose could easily do Nathan’s and then jump right back into AICE contests, so they probably figured that would happen. All I was saying is they’d probably allow him if he could somehow prove that he was serious about leaving AICE for good. How that can be done, I have no idea. It doesn’t help that a bunch of AICE people tried to do Nathan’s as well, who defintely had no intention of leaving AICE (or more likely signing up knowing they wouldn’t be allowed, just to prove a point). Personally, I don’t like all this fussin’ and a’ feudin’. It’s all pretty silly that there is so much bad blood in something that shouldn’t be taken quite this seriously (i.e this is just eating people). But nobody is going to change it. All we can do is pick a side I suppose.

Putting Goose’s name in the same sentence as Koby (except to point out extreme differences) is a travesty in itself for has anyone even thought about how many pounds of strawberries Koby could eat in the same time frame of seven minutes? I would venture to say about 13 but I am taking nothing away from Goose. He is one of the best eaters America has.

Thanks, SB. It was a personal defeat though. I could do 6 pounds easily, and was expecting 7. Not to make excuses, but I didn’t stick to my pre comp routine, and suffered for it. That is the rookiness showing through. BTW, I am in no way condoning home training, I am just simply stating that if you want to succeed in CE, don’t go out the night before and wash down half of a large Pizza with a pitcher of beer.
Luther….. for get about it, not worth my time.
KevinRoss, yes, there is some bad blood in the hierarchy of CE leagues, and I think for us peons to bicker about it is a shame, however, history shows us that the first step in revolution is voicing our anger, and sometimes it sounds like whining.
About the jumping back and forth, there is a contract which you signed preventing that. Was I or Tom given the chance to sign it? I can tell you no on both counts. Would signing the contract, if we were to sign, be enough proof that either of us were serious about leaving AICE?
The biggest problem that independent eaters have with this whole subject is the immediate grouping that we get once we do a contest. To argue many statements that Liz, and Rhonda, and Kate, and others who have never competed independently make, NO, there is no affiliation with rival leagues just because someone decided to compete in an Outside of IFOCE event. Joey and Bob both did restaurant challenges several times. You ate twinkies for another website. Me, I did a contest in New Jersey, but that happened to be an AICE event. As it applies here, we all entered the Nathan’s qualifiers to compete personally, not as an AICE member, which there is no such thing by the way, just supporters. I didn’t even know at the time of first competing, that I was going to be booted from any IFOCE events just by competing. Now, I knew that there was a problem with these so called members competing in MLE. I just didn’t think I was considered as one. Now, I guess you could say IFOCE made me one.

Coulda Shoulda Woulda — not the first guy to eat more a home then not bring it to the table

No Excuses, no one wants to hear ’em. Get better. And save us the paragraph.

If ya want to sign the IFOCE contract, I’m sure they’d gladly fax you a copy and you could return it ASAP.

The only people IFOCE’s denying, and rightfully so, are those who want to eat in AICE and IFOCE events. They’re protecting their investment in the product.

AICE on the otherhand, won’t deny anyone participation…. but don’t think if you cross them they’ll welcome you back with open arms.

Well, yes. You are right. In the competitive eating world I am still a nobody. Umm, I don’t remember that being the argument. So now about the other wonderful comments you have made so far:
    1. You are the only one that called me Corey. Are your reading skills as poor as your writing ones?
    2. OJ doesn’t pay attention to your dribble either, so you don’t have to apologize to him.
    3. Kobayashi and Gilbert are both great eaters. There, both in the same sentence, and no one can argue it. No travesty occurred.
    4. If it weren’t for taking work breaks to read these updates, I am sure I still wouldn’t be paying attention to what you say. Yes, as great as I am, I do still have to work a real job.
    5. From now on I will only respond to intelligent things you say. I can only imagine everyone out there making fun of me for falling into your trap.

The more you admit that you heard Luther’s bs, the more it seems to make it legitimate. My suggestion is to not respond to his bs and longer. Let him post his stupidity and move on.

    Carey,
My limited run with CE has taught me that it is a personal journeyfor self betterment. Try not to beat yourself up too much like I have. Each contest is a new opportunity to learn something and improve. You’ll be a better person from the friendships you make at the table.

You’ve got the talent and apparently the fire, so I expect great things nomatter what league you eat for.
