The "Goose" has responded to his critics.

He says he tried to get into Nathan's at Coney Island but the IFOCE said he was not good enough.

He also says he told everyone he was a professional before the contest but they wanted him to eat anyway so he says it is not his fault THEY broke the rules.

He also says he made no money as an eater. He says he spent more than he made so since the $11,200 he won was was not making a living, this was more his hobby and not a profession.

The recent actions and words of the "Goose" make BB and Don Lerman look like incredible professionals.

I always thought the term pro implied that a person earned enough money from a given vocation to make a living. Applying that logic, the only people I can even begin to envision in that status is Koby and possibly Joey (in a good year).

But even those two do CE as a pastime. So does CE really have ANY pros? I really don't think so. It's too small and lacks the purses for eaters to earn enough to make a living at it.

The only possible pros in the business of CE are George and Rich.

To be a pro, does that mean you win or get paid to eat? With that rule, many in IFOCE, who have not won any money, are not pros either.

1. Three pounds, 5 ounces = 53 oz.
2. Ave meat weight of a wing = .5 oz.
3. 53 oz / .05 oz = 106 wings.

That's how they do it at Buffalo WingFest each year, and it seems about as accurate as you're going to find.

I registered, & was called back & told that I wouldn't be allowed to compete & Goose has been disqualified.

I still don't understand how the reigning champ can compete. How are you not a pro if you won a 2 yr lease on a Honda Element or the $7,500. cash equivalent?

Wasn't aice about independent eaters? Didn't most skirt plenty of rules saying they weren't pros because they weren't under contract? APE is a different story all together. Oh the good old days before people lost their minds.

According to the USDA Nutrition web site, a roasted whole chicken wing (drum & paddle) with the bone removed averages 34 grams of meat and skin. Tom ate about 1503 grams, divided by 34, yields 44. 44 times 2 for the two halves = 88 wings.
