If the Wild Card was suddenly brought back, Wing Kong would lead the pack of those who completed 3 Qualifiers. Sorry buddy, not your year.

What is the best strategy when you've got a win locked down? Push hard and eat as much as possible or only eat what you need to secure the win? The question reminds me of the "running up the scoreboard" debates in other pro sports (usually football and basketball).

If a team has a big lead and the win is guaranteed, it's considered good sportsmanship to go easy and not heap unnecessary points on the scoreboard or risk injuring your players by running aggressive plays. Granted, that situation has more to do with helping your opponent save face by not rubbing salt in the wound caused by the lopsided score, but it's a similar situation nonetheless.

Personally, I think an eater should still push hard, but hold back a little bit if the win is locked down. That strategy makes even more sense when you realize what's on the line in some contests. Sometimes it's thousands of dollars or, in this case, a priceless trip to Coney Island.

The best do that? Both Kobayoshi and Chestnut have held back in competitions when they had a solid lead. It isn't "the best" strategy to just push yourself as hard as you can, it is stupidity.

If he reversed, someone that did 11 would get in. The better eater made it in that day and that's all that matters.

Some people may argue, that you should push yourself to your limit every time during competition. that's what the best will always do.

What's the point of this thread? I think the fact that Kevin himself got a considerably higher total before shows that he just didn't want to push himself when he didn't need to. Why risk a reversal when you don't have to. Kevin deserves the win.

You should do the same chart, but delete the competitors that did eventually make it to the finals. It would be easier to see.
