When you see one youve seen both. They better never put em side by side or the announcers will always get them mixed up. Black hair brown eyes same height same weight. I think their both even from the same country but it doesnt really matter because all Asians look alike to me.

Did you know…despite all the rookie energy and bright-eyed appeal that she brings to the circuit, Juliet Lee is actually the same age as Sonya Thomas. Both are 39 (Sonya will turn 40 in July).

I find it appalling that the very first comment about Juliet’s sparkling qualifying for Nathan’s should be from the elusive L. A few comments, stepping out of my more ambassadorial tone…….Ignorance is no excuse for ignorance. On the other hand, I do not believe that the poster does not know the difference between Juliet and Sonya. Surely the comments from L. are simply to provoke. Nothing makes a bully more angry than being ignored. So Luther, now you are getting my attention. Are you happier?

This is for OJ too. Editor? Moderator? I wish that I could fully support eatfeats, but allowing certain comments, especially from so called anonymouses (with full apologies to the entire mouse population)make this very difficult. It is not just negativity but outright bullying and insulting that is uncalled for. I cannot change people’s personalities. But OJ, whoever you are, you should be more of a mench moderator.

Juliet should be fully able to celebrate her achievements as should Sonya and every other eater who tries, who competes, who gives their all. Perhaps you should have two websites, the yin and yang. Let the negativities stay in their own group and let the positivities revel and enjoy theirs. Dialogue is wonderful. Insults serve noone.

I cheer for and support every eater, each on his or her own journey, each with his or her own reasons for pursuing and eating to a different drummer. May the best eaters win everywhere, may all be proud of their efforts and accomplishments.

I understand OJ letting everyone have their say via freedom of speech amendment but a moron like Luther , even though most of he or she’s comments are ignored , damages this blog site. This is an example of one sad human being who seems to get a tremendous sexual pleasure playing with people’s heads. I think if this lowlife’s oxygen supply was cut off ( ban the bitch) he or she’s warped mind would go elsewhere.

OJ all ready is moderating the comments. If you think what I have said is appauling so far you would have really been upset if you read some of the comments that I tried to post but didnt make it so were both upset.

    Man, proud man,
Drest in a little brief authority,
Most ignorant of what he’s most assur’d,
His glassy essence, like an angry ape,
Plays such fantastic tricks before high heaven,
    As make the angels weep.

Actually, scratch my earlier comment about Juliet and Sonya being the same age. According to that article, Juliet is actually two years OLDER than Sonya.

(Butch) You could never tell that because they both look like they are barely into their 30s.

There are similar comparisons but Sonya takes this more serious than Juliet. Juliet has other committments but she does enter alot of contests so this is more than just a passing hobby for her. I think Juliet’s presence keeps the sport exciting . I think it has gained alot more exposure since she started competing .If she decided to leave it would damage the sport somewhat.

yeah she has brought the exposure its not because of joey doing 59+

Exactly, I love Kevin Ross. “Exposure” is what a monster performance or a major broadcast bring. Just because a few of us are aware of the results of the qualifiers does not mean that the rest of America is aware of any of it.

I don’t know how many others here use google alerts, but there has not been as many online posts in blogs and online news sites (at least in those cached by google) about competitive eating in the past year as when Joey did the nathan’s qualifier recently. The two women got many for their qualifiers, but everyone and their mother was talking about the new hopeful from California.

With the understanding that competitive eating, though growing, is not widely followed at all, the one person that people associate CE with is Kobayashi. Take him out of the equation and the sport takes a steep nose dive before it gets noticed again.

Sonya is a very distant second. Joey is starting to get noticed, but he needs to win several televised/highly publicized events in a row (over Kobayashi) before he is even in the same stratosphere, publicity-wise, as Koby.

Even if Kobayashi were to get beat (which ain’t gonna happen anytime soon), he is still needed because he is the quintessential standard of greatness that all other competitive eaters are measured by. Without him in the equation, CE greatness loses its meaning.

That is why every eater past, present, and future (the entire sport) owes the man so dearly.

(Chime in here Joe. I know you’ll agree with at least a small portion of what I am saying, before you “kick me to the curb. Anyway, it’s almost fun getting kicked by you, “verbally” that is.

Kobayashi is the quintessential standard…….no doubt………. but they also serve who only stand and eat.
