MyFoxPhilly has an article about Bill "El Wingador" Simmons retirement announcement on WIP earlier today. Simmons also said he thought Takeru Kobayashi would beat Joey Chestnut in a wing eating contest due to superior technique.

Say it ain’t so! I think he still has 20 or more wing bowls left in him. Even at age 70, I can just hear the cheers by the home crowd when his loyal wingettes wheel him out to his cherished spot at the table. It chokes me up thinking about it.

WIP is just trying to play Joey. They played their hand & now their stuck. Hope they enjoy repeatedly handing Kobi the fake his $$. No real eater has the guts to face him & Joey has already proved he’s better by beating his ass in hot dogs. Kobi’s dream is to take a title from Joey & the league won’t even let him try. Joey is #1 & always will be. Kobi should pack up the little woman & head home. After signing with WIP he is old news. The only pr he’s getting is the news he pays to have reported about himself.

Kobayashi took a title frm Joey in his last major MLE contest, the 2009 Krystal Square Off.

Most of these sponsors that Kobi made money from are one shot deals because they cant come up with the bread to pay him for future events. With MLE he never had to worry about that cause it was and still is a constant cash flow for superior eaters. See what happens when the well runs dry

Whatever you think, Kobayashi has not had so much press since his arrest (not including the former days). Still cannot see MLE asking him back but stranger things have happened. Do not even think he wants that, I think he just wants to show that he can beat Joey in hotdogs. And it is MLE which will decide whether or not their eaters could ever participate again in Wingbowl, assuming they were asked to. Unless Joey goes independent…..now think about that……..what could possibly be in that for him and the others top eaters. Wingbowl, not even the contest is the main event no matter how it is judged. Thus, good for Kobi for winning, good for all who participated and enjoyed it, it is independents in Wingbowl in one way or the other.

I really don’t see Koby coming back to MLE either, but like 11:11 said, stranger things have happened. I think the bridge he nearly burned is still partly intact.

I know most people who know much more about MLE will disagree with me when I say this, but who’s to say that Nathan’s won’t try to work out a deal for a one-event-contract specifically for Nathan’s? I could see it now, billed as: “Six-Time Nathan’s World Champ and CE Legend Takeru Kobayashi Versus Five-Time and Reigning Champ, Joey Chestnut?”

Talk about crowds at Surf and Stillwell! Talk about ESPN exposure! You’d have the most followed Nathan’s finals of all time!

I would think Nathan’s would have everything to gain and nothing to lose, but not so for MLE, unless they were well compensated by Nathan’s.

Frankly, I’d like to see it.

The fact that Joey did the pizza challenge means his trigger finger is getting itchy. Some time ago Chestnut was quoted off the record as saying “I want to get all i can get from the Sheas”

Kobi can try all he wants. He can do every local contest he can get in. Joey will ALWAYS be better. Kobi is the usual Japanese guy who competes on shows like wipe out and wins. Joey is an average Joe who has proved you dont have to have a lowered stomach and no gag reflex to be a champion. Joey can kick the crap out of Kobi. He should be afraid if they match up again- very afraid. Sucking up to radio djs and flashing his 120lb abs won’t guarantee him a victory against Joey. He can save that for the sorry small town contests he is forced to do now. No one cares about him since the Shea’s booted him and other than people using his name in the attempt to gain “recognition” in their nothing contests- no one will. Give it up Kobi… (aka the new Wingador) there’s already a world champion (Joey) so you can retire and deal with that (fake jawthritis) medical issue of yours.

I always felt that in head-to-head battles Koby would probably edge out Joey a bit more than half of the time. However, it’s interesting that Joey is the new King in the very food that Koby is best known for.

I strongly doubt Koby will ever touch Joey in HDBs. I’d say that even if Koby had “tallied” over 70 in his roof top shadow boxing-like effort on July.

The reason: Joey’s stomach capacity simply overwhelms Koby’s. That’s why you saw bits of food coming out of Koby’s mouth and nostrils once he hit 50+ HDBs. Simply put, there was no more room for more HDBs to go.

I must also say that while no one will ever replace Koby’s contribution to CE, I have gained much respect for Joey the last couple of years. I didn’t give him his just due initially, but I was wrong. His talent is second to no one!
