Arturo Rios to do Wedges & Wings

The New York Daily News reports that Arturo Rios will compete in the “MLE Chowndown” to be held in Las Vegas Tuesday.

    Good to see Rios back at the table. I just commented over on Hall’s blog that he’s been out of action since Nathan’s.

    To those that bitch and moan about not getting chosen, read my commentary for the month of oct . It sort of puts everything into perspective regarding the “SPITE” showdown. Most people will voice the classic excuse “why not me” Maybe you should say to yourself “what are some of the reasons why they would not want me” I used to think the same “why not me” many icons ago but one has to make a checklist of reasons as to why you think you might be getting the shaft.From a personal standpoint “SPITE” would not want me for several reasons. Too old Too fat and not able to eat up to par with the new breed of eaters.However my selling point was color commentary. I could have been useful in that aspect but they chose not to . I realize selling yourself short or knocking your ability is not very practical but lets face it , most of you live in denial and refuse to admit that you cant cut the mustard or maybe you know you cant but just dont want to admit it.If you have some legit or arguable gripes and feel you should be part of the show , then make them aware of it. I am not trying to get down on anyone but for one minute try to put yourself in their shoes and look at their mentality from their side of the ocean. Sure its unfair and sure its not right . If you call or email the IFOCE they wont tell you what i just told you for fear of hurting your feelings but bottom line its the truth. You know it , i know it and everyone knows it.

    I think one think you didn’t touch on, Brian, but you might be thinking in the back of your head is that this is NATIONAL TELEVISION. In other words, looks matter. I don’t mean that eaters and on-screen personalities have to be good looking (though that helps), but it also helps if an eater has a physical personality and looks good on TV (a la Steakbellie, Crazy Legs or El Toro). This is just another parallel between the IFOCE and pro wrestling.

    For the glutton bowl all they cared about was if you were able to eat a ton of food. Now they are concentrating on good looks or at least look like you are in good physical shape. Twenty years ago or even 15 for that matter, noone would dare tell me i was slightly overweight or out of shape because i wasnt. Alot of my anger and frustration revolves around the fact that i am unable to compete at the level i am capable of along with not being able to hang in there with the top 10 eaters. It is very very frustrating but i have noone to blame but myself.
