Eating challenges that pay out reluctantly
Following up on the article reporting that Naader Reda did not receive the $1,260 prize at Pho 87, here is a list of restaurants that are reportedly reluctant to pay out listed eating challenge rewards. Please comment if you think other restaurants should be added.
- The Beast, Wheat State Pizza, Kansas – Randy Santel did not receive the $500 prize (He got them do donate $500 in food to charities)
- Diablo’s Burrito Challenge, Diablo’s Cantina, Las Vegas, NV (according to Juan Rodriguez, he was told that by manager that the burrito would be free if he finished it, which was not honored. The online menu says that only a T-shirt will be awarded.)
- OMG Burger, The Catch, Anaheim, CA – $500 prize not available to professionals (professionals appear to be defined as anyone who has previously competed in an eating contest)
- Phozilla Challenge, Pho 87, Las Vegas, NV – closed to professional eaters (not explicitly mentioned on website)
- Zeus burger, Clinton Station Diner, Clinton, NJ – both three person teams to win the $500 prize for finishing received a burger weighing more than the listed 12.5 pound weight: Team 1 | Team 2

It took me 4 months and threating to get my lawyer involved to get the $1000 from the Pho King Way challenge. In the contract, the resturant states that upon winning, Pho King Way will give the winner $1000 right on the spot, plus a Pho King shirt and hat. So much for the “right on the spot.” Also, i never got my hat or shirt lol.
P.S. The resturant that i did the challenge at apparently soon after went out of business LOL. Part of me feels bad.

Please add the 666 challenge in Bowling green OH. They are guilty on a couple of counts A. Bait and switch, they show one size on the web site and when attempted the challenge suddenly grows. B. Falsifying claims of completion

All be it, it gets pretty annoying when I called ahead of time n asked again once I arrived to confirm. Then the fact that they claimed “no one has yet to finish” really surprised me after they brought it to my table.

Interestingly, Diablo’s told me the same story when I called them three weeks ago. The manager insisted it’s comped to finishers. But, during my visit to Vegas the servers laughed when I asked about the offer. Just a shirt and a $40 bill to winners.

Haha, I clicked on that Pho 87 Challenge and noticed they mentioned “Cheater Stephanie Torres” on their website. What were the odds of that? lol

Diablo’s also has a Death WIng Challenge listed on the menu. Does anyone know the challenge and if the same thing applies as the burrito. Their food is good but I won’t go to this place anymore\.

The lady takes ID, she had the chance to tell her she was professional. This was done before Torres even did a qualifier for Nathans.
