The MLE facebook announces that the first new rankings of 2010 will be released later today with a new entrant in the top 10.

Awesome. Who will be new top 10 eater be? Juliet moving up one spot to #10? Ben Monson jumping up from 24? My money is on Ben. The only question is, who’s dropping out of the top 10? Looks like either Tim Brown (#9) or Badlands (#10). I’m guessing the big man is going to slip a few notches. It doesn’t matter though. On the all time ranking of legends, Badlands Booker will ALWAYS be in the top 10.

Monson is the strongest pick for the New Top 10. I expect a barrage of negative comments to rain down if it actually does go down though.

Anonymous 1:35: I totally agree with your top 10 prediction, except I think Pat is a clear # 3 right now. So Bob topped Joey … well so did Ben, and Sonya has finished ahead of Bob twice this year.
That being said, I still don’t believe Joey should be # 1, for the same reasons listed above. However, I admit, Koby’s ranking suffers from inactivity.
Active or not, Koby’s the world’s best eater, hands down. Joey is perhaps the best food drinker, though after Nathan’s he may be # 2 at that also.

Morgan ranked 18th, I can make a case for that being to high and I can make a case for it being legit.
Crazy legs IMO is still over rated, should be around 17.
Bob has really brought it since the last rankings were out which is why I put him 3rd, but I’m a little shocked to see him #2!

I agree with the Fed’s top 10, except for two H-U-G-E placings —- Bob and Kobayashi at # 2 and 3, respectively! Well f**k me to tears! This is a complete joke.
Don’t give me that inactivity crap either. The rankings should reflect the best eaters at a snapshot in time. Does anyone really think Bob can out speedeat Koby at ANY food … today!

and that would be my argument for why Adrian shouldn’t be so high so soon.
On the other hand he has beat Biller 3 out of 3 times. He also has wins over Conti, Booker and Reeves.
Bauer, he obviously got that based on crawfish wich was a really screwy event 2 years in a row, his other two performaces are not 31 ranked worthy.
Boykin – he’s ranked 40th, that’s not to far of a reach.

I agree with the rankings. I’m also shocked by Bob’s #2, or Koby #3 depending on how you look at it. However, i understand the reasons behind that move, as koby hasn’t participated in any IFOCE sanctioned event since Krystals. Let’s see how the rankings look like after July 4th, or better yet, after this year’s krystals.

These rankings are purely artificial. Joey is artificially kept number one. Koby is artificially kept in the top 3, although (NOT HIS FAULT, mind you), he only participates in 2 tournaments that IFOCE recognizes. And Ben Monson should be much higher too. He’s BEHIND Eater X? Why? Did Eater X EVER beat Ben Monson? On the contrary, Ben Monson has already beaten Joey. Monson probably should be in the top 3 already now.
The IFOCE rankings are purely artificial. Just made up by the Shay brothers. These rankings have NOTHING to do with reality.

Anon1138 has a point. We all have to remember that these rankings are created purely for marketing purposes. They made Bob #2 just to create excitement at contests he and Joey will be facing off in. The Sheas make these rankings when they have a spare 30 minutes lying around (which apparently is only twice a year) or, worse yet, they hand the task off to a Shea Communications intern who knows very little about CE and they take a quick look at the interns work before emailing the new rankings to their web guy.
So here’s my suggestion. If we don like the rankings, LET’S CREATE OUR OWN. Seriously. Other sports (college football) have multiple ranking systems. Hall Hunt took a crack at devising a more “accurate” ranking system (which I applaud him for).
We can call them the “Eatfeats Rankings”. Once a quarter (or immediately following a “major” event), OJ can post the current IFOCE rankings and just like we’re doing here, we can all make our case for which eaters should be ranked higher or lower.
How ’bout it OJ? The only thing I would suggest is only ranking the top 30 eaters. 50 is just too many in my opinion, but we can debate the merits of that too.

Actually after re-reading that, OJ wouldn’t post the most recent IFOCE rankings, OJ would post the most recent Eatfeats Rankings and we’d decide who should move up or down. The only time we’d need the IFOCE rankings is when we make the first Eatfeats Rankings.

Funny how the ifoce keeps quiet about Rich’s “retirement.” It’s always them first and eaters last. Rich gave his heart for many years and like a sponge, he’s sucked dry and thrown out when he no longer is of interest. Now he has health problems caused by Comp. Eat., much like people working around asbestos until it finaly catches up with them. Sure, the ifoce feels bad, but they would feel worse if they lost money.

Bob Shout is lucky to finish 5th in the biggest contest of the year, and yet somehow he is ranked #2. Makes no sense. Kobayashi kicks his ass year in and year out every time they face off.
