Furious Pete & numbers dropped from AICE rankings
(via email) The AICE rankings have been redone and “Furious” Pete Czerwinski is no longer listed. According to an email from Pete, no reason was provided for his delisting. Numerical rankings have also been dropped in place of a two-tier system. (Cached previous AICE rankings)
With the removal of Pete Czerwinkski, 3 (also Joe Menchetti & Ian Hickman) of the AICE top 5 at the start of 2009 no longer appear in the AICE rankings. Ian Hickman, winner of a cupcake contest Saturday, remains listed in the Hall of Fame.
update Furious Pete has started two forum threads on bodybuilding.com about his ejection (Thread 1 | Thread 2) which report that AICE contracts have started.

It makes perfect sense that even if Pete does go with the Fed, it won’t be until AFTER Nathan’s, because there would be too much for the IFOCE to lose.
Could you imagine if Pete was allowed to qualify, and by some miracle won the Nathan’s final, after which he would receive more worldwide attention in a single day than the previous 2 years combined, then decided to dishonor his contract and return to the AICE?
That would vault the rival organization from survival status to the forefront of legitimacy. The Sheas would be crestfallen (using one of Rich Shea’s favorite words). No, they’re smarter than that. Let Pete prove his Fed loyalty for a year and then give him a shot at the Nathan’s title.
I may be a bit off base here, but I think hit hits the target somewhere.

This has nothing to do with IFOCE as they want nothing to do with me. A discrepancy with one point in the contract that overlaps with gigs I do on the side, as such I am no longer needed to serve them. Their choice, not mine.

I can understand kicking Arnie out of AICE but Pete? The guy was clearly a monster talent and seemed to even attract his own media coverage. Doesnt make sense. Isnt the whole idea of AICE to promote INDEPENDENT Eaters? Didnt Arnie spend the last 5 years complaining about contracts? Arent the AICE rolls filled with people who joined soley because they dont want to be constrained by a contract?

Seriously, I cant get over this. The thing I respected about the AICE Eaters is that they we free to compete in absolutely anything they wanted. Local bar wing contests, Food Challenges, whatever. These eaters must be pissed as hell now that they are being told what they can and cannot do. They should have just joined the IFOCE instead. AICE even brought down the ‘Should You Sign the Contract’ link on their homepage. Whats next, dunking????
How can anyone respect the Management of AICE after pulling the carpet out from their Eaters???? Please remove the word Independent from your website, Arnie.

OK.
Fiirst things first.
A.I.C.E. is really about 2 things, to me anyway.
1. “Picnic style rules”
2. “Independent Eaters”
APE is not trying to stop their eaters from entering “local bar wing contests”.
They are trying to get a bit of loyalty from their eaters on paper because certain individuals were signing other papers and talking of entering a nathans qualifer. Oh, you know who you are.
Secondly.
IFOCE is and has been trying to put a cloak on and use APE eaters as a sort of “B list” eater gallery.
EATFEATS also has a role in this too, I dont think that this wil make it to the cutting room floor, Rhonda Evans wears the cloak as Steve Adnor sometimes but they are both the Shea’s.
Thirdly.
Who woulda thunk that there would be so much termoil involved with a gavonne loud mouthed idiot and the chowhound. Jo Rose really came through with his little blog entry.
Lastly.
I hope and pray that my beloved eating organization with a heart as big as its stomach doesnt crumble through the ruffage.
We will fight through, just like picnic style eating, its a tougher road to travel, we aint gonna dunk our buns in the water just yet.

CE needs an organization that cares just about two things: the sport itself and the eaters – not sponsors , not eating style, not any other thing. I think it’s really not as hard as IFOCE and AICE make it look. How do ginness records work? Do something alike just for CE!

Guinness World Records work by paying the Guinness people about 2,000 to 10,000 Pounds for them to come over and watch you. Thats the “science” behind it.
The Eating world is strictly a business. That’s what this move is all about, an attempt to make more money by having a contract. I would like to see a league owner of any sport that put finance/business before the players/love for the sport.

It’s my fault Pete. I didn’t make myself clear in sake of shortness. I knew about the money issue .
What i was referring to was the claim-come-see-give-me-a-record structure – it takes away sponsors! There is a workarround for the money issue anyway: Proving it with a youtube video that seems legit like most of yours do would be a good workarround for me. If i was asked for a solution it would be something like a competitive-eating-video-wikipedia indeed.
Eating challenges would work the same. Independent eating contest results should be at least well documented – Newspapers would do the work of proving it for you!. I still think it’s not that hard – as i’m writting this i’m almost thinking about doing it myself.

This is for Pete and Joe. Everybody that follows competitive eating knows that Joey and Pat are probably the best two eaters out there. Show some class you don’t here them bashing anyone, if you want to call this a sport which it isn’t it’s entertainment. It looks like you two are spoiled little boys.
Joe all you ever do is cry when you don’t get your own way there’s allways an excuse, and Pete if you’re not the center of attention you’re the same way all you do is put a video up on youtube and they all start out the same. If you two are starving for that much attention move back home.

I wouldnt even acknowledge it as an eating organization. Contrary to the IFOCE which is a real organzation, the acic or whatever you want to call it , fell flat on its face because of two central factors that the IFOCE does not lack. I don’t cry about getting my way, I make my case, learn my lessons & move on.
I never trusted the Shea’s & frankly expect to get screwed by Boone, but I liked & trusted Arnie until Niagara when he proved himself to be a lying, sneaky bastard w/out principles. (This has little to do w/the spaghetti eating contest but the stuff that preceded it) So frankly, while the source is more than suspect, I can’t say I disbelieve the allegations.
If Arnie is still in charge, I’m setting the bridge on fire w/this post. I reiterate, aice left me, I did not leave it.
If anyone doubted that I left the ifoce voluntarily, the fact that i’m saying I was thrown out of aice should prove it.
I think I have much more to say & probably will at some point.

I was contemplating devoting a full page editorial focusing on my personal views of this madman but it would be more like giving charles manson or the son of sam media exposure. I warned you about this creep but many of you opted to put the window shades on and cotton balls in your ears thinking its just a personal thing between the both of us. Even OJ Rifkin had his hands full with this animal feeling the brunt of his rage by having to endure his threatening emails.Not to mention that gavonne guy that was personally threatnened via telephone. Maybe he needs a pest infestion to bring him to reality. As far as the business aspect , if you show your psycotic side then sooner or later it will reflect on how you run your business. Hence, his two big guns were thrown out of his club. This is someone that supposedly strived for eaters right and freedom to do as they please without restricted or binding contracts. Spending the last 5 years blasting the Shea’s and the hippocrite turns around and decides to go against what he claimed he supposedly strived for .Full of shit if you ask me. Everyone makes their own choices. No one can control the choices anyone else makes. At least in the US that is how things work. Maybe Canada is different and it is all just a cultural misunderstanding
When two sides enter into business negotiations, either side is allowed walk away at any time for any reason. But why does competitive eating have such a long history of basing these negotiations around such arbitrary, capricious and downright silly reasons?

I’m not crying or bitching, I’m just disappointed in how this was approached. Anyone can succeed in the CE world with ambition and determination. That’s like any business. The amount of haters on this site is astonishing really.
I disagreed with the following points in the new APE contract.
12. Performer will remove any and all Internet connections (Friends lists, contacts, etc.) Involving eaters from rival eating organizations, entities or individuals. ALL PRO retains the right to execute its sole judgment in regard to any directive or request that a Performer remove such above indicated references.
– I don’t think its right who you can and can’t talk too…
13. Performer is free to enter into this agreement and does not have any other agreement or obligation that would conflict with the provisions hereof. Performer understands that Performer is not an employee of ALL PRO EATING Promotions or any related party for any purpose and expressly waives any right to receive benefits accorded to the employees of ALL PRO EATING Promotions or any related party. This agreement contains the entire understanding between the parties, supersedes all prior understanding and agreements, whether written or oral and cannot be terminated, modified or any of it’s provisions waived except by a written instrument signed by both parties. This Agreement shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of applicable to contracts entered into and fully performed therein. Each of the parties irrevocably submits to the jurisdiction of any New York State or United States Federal Court sitting in New York County in any action or proceeding arising out of or relating to this Agreement. ALL PRO EATING Promotions may freely assign this Agreement and it’s rights and obligations hereunder to any third party
– So since I signed with an agency 12 months ago for model/talent gigs, then I can’t sign this contract…

First off, you certainly have my respect as an Eater, and now as a Man for standing up for whats right. It’s incredibly ironic/moronic that Chapman now is trying to be MORE restrictive than the IFOCE that he assaulted. You seem to be able to draw your own media and attention and have enough business smarts to promote your own causes.
Honestly, Arnie should be ashamed of himself for trying to control his Eaters and even who they talk to. THATS unAmerican. Can you IMAGINE? Someone telling you in a contract that you are forbidden from even having a friend list of some other eaters? The IFOCE has contracts that you cant even compete in any other contests other than theirs. Everyone keeps whining about it. Ian RETIRED now all of a sudden comes out of retirement, I wonder why, hmmmm he just needs attention. These guys are just insecure. Contracts restrict personal freedoms all the time. If someone handles confidential, secret or sensative information, their communications are restricted even when outside of work; if someone uses their position to make political statements or speak negatively about their employer, they’ll be told to knock it off. Lots of contracts have personal conduct clauses. We all give up some of our autonomy and freedom every time we cash our paychecks. If we don’t like it, or feel our principals are compromised, we find something better. This absolutely does not conflict with American values
AICE made their choice for how to run their business. Pete must decide if he is willing to agree to those terms. If the right amount of money was available, Pete absolutely would go along with it; if he can find better offers on his own, he will forge his own path. Even Canadians would agree there is nothing *more* American than that. I just wonder why competitive eating always takes the lowest road this country allows, rather than striving for the best
I know what choice is in my best interest. And I know which of Pete’s choices is in my best interest as well
