Grace Lee asserts that she ate 24 hot dogs yesterday, which would have given her fourth place in the women's division and a prize of $1,500. The official results list her total at 4. update Grace has posted a picture of the ESPN3 program showing her listed at 23 hot dogs.

    This is going to get interesting, but let’s end the speculation right now. Every female eater came offstage angry about the tremendous mess Grace had made, which they characterized as entire hot dogs, several to a plate, merely broken into smaller pieces. Her plates (five of them) were stacked almost ten inches high because so very little had actually been eaten. Was the penalty a little bit punitive? Who knows? Maybe she ate more than four. But nobody onstage with her, including the judge who made the final decision, thinks that she ate 24. So there you have it: grand theft averted and justice served. Now if only Juliiet had been penalized for her conduct…

    Grace Lee is in for a very big surprise if she continues to post and try to prove her way into a 4th place finish via a typo. But then, perhaps she knows something about that other side of competitive eating. It isn’t a sport, it is entertainment as in absolutely anything goes, or so she apparently thinks. She wins hands down for being delusional and has some company in that group. There is no way for her to continue in this vein, she is taking something away from Larell and Sonya and Stephanie by trying to draw attention to herself in this way. Out Grace Lee, you cannot come even close in your eating skills to begin to deserve some attention.

    Does she realize that ESPN3 can show anything? I too saw her name pop in on ESPN3 but that doesn’t mean anything. The official number is what matters. I don’t know how the payments work, but did anyone from the IFOCE talk to her about getting cash or check for 4th place money?

    Ok, since I was the eater next to Grace, perhaps I can clear up some confusion here. Grace didn’t eat 24 HDBs any more than I did. The only correlation between her & 24 HDBs was that she may have touched 24 of them. As far as amount consumed? It’d be generous to say she actually CONSUMED max 12. As she moved each “empty” plate away to start on the next one, there was AT LEAST 2 HDBs’ worth of debris left on each “finished” plate. And, I’m not talking about some wet bun debris, I’m talking about pieces of unchewed hot dogs. So much so that the stacked plates were a pile b/c the amount of debris wldnt let them stack flatter. Any of u who know me in person, or thru my comments over the past year know that I am a very positive, encouraging person and I try not to comment negatively, instead I just generally don’t comment if thats the case. However this is just too much & a COMPLETE hallucination on Grace’s part. I applaud MLE for playing tough and doing what they did. I think a strong example has been made for future contest tolerances. Sorry for babbling so much

    Thank you LM for clearing that up. I know she can eat about a dozen so either number of 4 or 24 seemed really off. I can see them giving deductions based on mess and half eaten dogs better than I can doubling the number of HDB in three weeks.

    Each of us indeed did have a counter in front of us, however, they are simply counting HDBs but not debris so as one hot dog is picked up, “eaten” and then another picked up, that counts as 1. They were not to determine what % is actually swallowed vs. winds up as debris. Thats why I’m grateful that someone from IFOCE actually did an inventory.

    so easy solution since grace wants to convince everyone that she had 24 HDB’s, lets see a picture of the check for $1,500 from the IFOCE or MLE. If you indeed ate 24, then LM would not be receiving a check. Problem solved.

    i also was wondering about her donations site to raise money for her trip…weren’t the female contestants’ travel, room and board paid for also?

    i’d just like her to rewrite her bios to the tune of “defeated. plenty. by women 2/3 her size and men of all sizes”

    she’s really starting to strike me as a dishonest braggart blowhard type, and i don’t want the association to negatively impact impressions of this sport.

Every once in a while you run across someone who is just incredibly annoying from the second you meet them, but hopefully we’ve seen the last of this little joker. Maybe we can hook her up with Bickle and they can write a book about their amazing accomplishments in the cosmos.

    How does this happen? And neither number is close to her number from the North Carolina qualifier. Is it possible there was some joking going on? I find both numbers a little hard to believe. This whole situation is just strange.

    Cutter, I think her discarding of food was so blatant and egregious (piles and piles of dogs) that there was probably no way to do a reconstruction of the crime scene. So, the Judges made a call. If I recall, Juliet suffered at least an as big reduction during a Krystal qualifier several years ago. The bottom line is, the judges ruling is the bottom line.

    Rich Shea recalled that one during this year’s Nathan’s telecast. Juliet Lee had a 30-Krystal-burger deduction a few years ago (from 80 to 50). I believe it was in one of the Tennessee qualifiers. This forced a 3-way eat off with Dr. Big Time and Badlands (I think BL was the third person.), which Juliet won.

    I believe that was the last we saw of Dr. Big Time.

    This is only a theory, but how many times have you heard people say that no one could possibly eat that much food at MLE contests. Basically, many think that these events are staged and the numbers eaten don’t actually reflect the truth. Perhaps, Grace Lee was one of those people. Maybe she thought that cheating or hiding food was all part of the game and she wouldn’t get called on it with a wink and a smile. That’s the only defense, weak as it is, that I could imagine for such behavior. It’s pretty clear that her so-called “competitions” for GSpots were pretty much staged for promotional value with no real judging or oversight as to what was actually eaten.

    It’s a decent theory that has crossed my mind too. The only thing is that she should have looked around and realized that her mess was much bigger than everyone else’s and consequently not made a big stink about the penalty on twitter. And if she didn’t look around when she had the chance, she should realize from all of these comments that her mess was too big allow for full credit for the plates that she went through.

    Wow Rhonda, I wasn’t aware of the 30 burger deduction! That’s just awful. It really, really saddens me to see cheating of this magnitude going on. I mean, cheating in any capacity is despicable but something like this just makes a mockery of the entire event. I really don’t think there’s any defense that can be used for what was done. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t think it was possible. I just think it’s amazing that she’s still managing to get people to print reports of her doing 24 for 4th place! I always thought that facts had to be checked b4 being printed as “news”. I know that if I find myself eating at another contest with her, I will be sure to have video of her table area specifically!!! Again, I am just grateful for the IFOCE call on this one 🙂

    LMM, regarding any media doing stories on her so-called fourth place finish, I wouldn’t let that upset you. She’s just digging a deeper hole. Notice how you don’t see stories on Bickel anymore. Everytime she tries to feed her story to a reporter she loses her credibility and will eventually be dismissed. Notice that there is Atlanta Journal Constitution entertainment reporter who tweets who initially bought her pre-contest spin that she was a good eater and was shocked to find it wasn’t true. I doubt if he would ever take a call from her again. And, the morning radio DJs who sponsored her must be embarrassed as heck about her behavior. The wires are the standard that that media uses for reporting the facts and they have Grace Lee at 8th place. If she tries to go the media with a different story, she’d be laughed out of the newsroom. If she wants to maintain any credibility, she needs to shut up about this phoney story of hers, and just tell reporters that she a wonderful time in New York, stands by the MLE’s official results, and looks forward to future events with GSpots. Taking down her “undefeated” claim wouldn’t be a bad move eater. Maybe she needs to rethink her career and focus more on the food critic stuff rather than the competitive eating.

    Yup. Also maybe when she ate for real at the qualifier and got 13, she looked over at Crazy Legs and saw him leaving hot dogs in cups and stuffing buns in gloves, and thought “oh so that is how people get those high numbers” (since CLC wasn’t disqualified or markedly deducted.) So at the finals she went all out.

    ….and to further clarify…Grace is not delusional about what she ate, but think about it people…all of you competitive eaters on here, if someone told you that you ate 24 Hotdogs and then came back and said you ate 4, wouldn’t YOU want an answer? If you listened to the broadcase, she is not stuck on 24 hotdogs or 4th place, quite honestly, she could probably care less, but that just seems like a slap in the face to drop it to 4 hotdogs, I mean she ate more than that in the qualifier and she wasn’t even trying that hard. Remember this was something she was asked to do and thought it was a good opportunity to do something new and exciting. She did not come to NY to become a victim, villain or any of the things you’re trying to make her…I’ll say it again…the point is such a large deduction deserves an explanation, and also, like she said in the interview, if she did that poorly, then just DISQUALIFY her, don’t insult her with 4 freakin hot dogs…

    Get it together, ask anyone in competitive eating, from Sonya and Joey to the lowest table ender, they would rather be known for having their integrity and honesty in tact human being, then to be known as a excessive, self-centered cheater competitive eater. Musicalheartbeat, Grace knew going into this that IFOCE would have the final say on the amount she ate. She cheated and was penalized for it, THERE’S HER EXPLANATION. She’s blowing smoke up people’s you-know-what who she well aware know little about how competitive eating rules work (second rate radio station) in regards to her claims for an explanation. Now Grace accept the ruling as you agreed to going into this, or continue to look like a poor loser and a cheater. In my opinion the MLE didn’t want to embarass her or the sponsor through a DQ of a lowly eater with very little future potential in competitive eating. If she wants to draw more attention to this, like this radio stunt ambush of a person answering the phones at the IFOCE, clearly she’s not as smart as I may have previously thought.

Oh isn’t that big of Grace, she takes part in an ambush of a person who answers the phone, and says “Be nice.” But, you wanted an official explanation — a spokesman for Major League Eating, which runs the contest, said Lee can blame her messy table manners for the discrepancy. “We take judging very seriously,” he said. “The judge was unable to determine what she had. He was faced with a large amount of detritus. He analyzed the food in front of her and credited her with four.” Now tell Grace to quit being a poor loser and congratulate the other eaters who soundly defeated her. And, yes I am standup citizen, and I don’t lie or cheat. Grace downed herself by selfishly lying to others and refusing to admit her knowlege of the rules, the amount she cheated, and her willingness to prolong this charade. With freedom of the press, you also have the right not to talk to the media. Grace unwisely chose otherwise and deserves the negative attention she brought on herself.
