The Wing Bowl website has a gallery of Stephanie "Chilita" Torres' successful sausage eating qualification stunt this morning. (I think this is the first successful qualification stunt by a woman since Melissa "White Widow" Perzin competed in Wing Bowl 14; Sonya Thomas received byes.) Bill "El Wingador" Simmons also announced he will compete in wing Bowl 20, which has been announced as a sell out. (via Joe LaRue email).

Is this news? A wash up and a never was? Oh please. These people think they stand a chance against Kobi. He couldn’t even beat Squibb. Give it up old man before you tarnish your record for good.

Wingador…or should I say Wing-a-who was the biggest embarrassment during the Bud Light Team Wing Eating Contest this year. He should be cleaning up wings after the contest not during the contest….not that he does much of that anyways

This is really getting played out and sickening . Another self absorbed ego maniac throwing his hat in the ring again after insisting year after year that he retired.

Angelao Cataldi gave Sonya Thomas a bye for her first Wing bowl, but she traveled to the studio and did an egg eating stunt on her own anyway, probably because people were complaining on eatfeats about her receiving special treatment and she is not the type to want anyone thinking she did not earn her way there.

Traveled to the studio at their expense.

Mark my word you will see when this contest is over how uncivilized and unstable this spectacle will be. If Kobayashi does not win or too close to call, he will finally blow his top over the lame officiating . The unruly intoxicated philly fans will give Kobayashi a taste of unsporstmanship the likes of which you have never seen

However you cut it, it’s going to turn out embarrassing for Kobi. If he wins, Angelo will make it close to Kobi so there is an eat off with Squibb, or God forbid Squibb and Wingador, a far cry and demeaning compared to his former battles with Chestnut. If he loses, even though it’s rigged, it’s also a new low. And, you’re right if he rightfully complains he looks like a sore loser and will get pelted. That’s why Sonya just shut up and made for the door as soon as they rigged it against her. Besides all the drunks will not like Kobi being a foreigner (they hated Sonya and she’s an American that just looks different from them). Kobi’s actually a foreign national.

Kobi will need to enter the arena well protected.

Sonya was pretty good but probably about the eighth best wing bowl chicken wing eater behind Chestnut, Wingador, Squibb, Bertoletti, Lerman, U.S. Male, and Menchetti. We will have to see where Kobi stands.

I think he should dress with that same outfit he used in the video when he was asked if he was gay. No music just “Hello my name is Kobayashi. I am not gay i am Japanese. Wait and see how much shit he gets pelted with after that

The whole thing is fixed right? That’s why Feds and Joey don’t go anymore? My ten cents is Kobi already knows the outcome and he is getting paid either way. Kick but Stephanie 🙂

While the officiating is…uneven. I am NOT willing to say its fixed.

The feds don’t go, cuz they aren’t PAID to go. Most of the mle guys WANT to be in this. They show up to be in others entourages. It is a very fun, male-centric event.

Last yr the Philly phans were respectful of Kobi. Now that he’s competing, that may change.

You can 500 wings and it won’t matter. Wingador goes on the air crying how he feels cheater from last year yet he was given a more then generous count on his slow eating. The radio gods will assure his ego is stroked. Now Brett Favre, I mean Wingador, has to jump back into Squibb & Kobayashi’s moment being the media hound he is. Same story, different year. Can’t wing bowl writers come up with a new script?

I don’t know much about Stephanie’s wing-eating prowess, but after Kobayashi, and arguably Jon Squibb, she’s the second- or third-best overall competitive eater in this year’s WB. The girl has both speed and stomach capacity. In my opinion she’s already the second-best female competitive eater in the world, and she’s still getting better. With favorable judging she COULD actually win the thing, though the reality of that happening is slim to none.

Koby would probably win fairly comfortably in a legitimate CE contest, whether he’s had experience eating wings or not, on his God-given ability alone. Also, the man has too much pride to go into a contest cold, without practicing to get to a cutting-edge performance level.

The contest will come down to one of three people winning—-Koby, Wingador, or Jon. Trying to guess who will be declared victor among those three, you might as well throw darts.

One thing is for sure. This event will culminate in a crescendo involving two or more eaters battling it out in a close contest. I would be very surprised if the winning margin is more than five wings.

Really, really wish Kobayashi were not in the mix. He does not belong there in so many ways. But it is his freedom and his choice. Glad to see Stephanie though, she seems to be the real deal and has made her choices, probably well made choices for her. March to your own drumstick.

Why can’t Subich be part of this? I thought lots of eaters do some kind of WB for fun even if they are in MLE, just not compete.

We addressed a similar issue before, but since it has come up again, here goes.

I see no problem with Big Brian Subich (or any other MLE eater, for that matter) being part of someone’s entourage at WB, especially when the person whose entourage he’s in has had no falling out with MLE. In fact, Rick the Manager is well liked by several MLE-ers.

It would be a different issue if he were part of the event itself (e.g. judging, participating, marketing), but he’s not.

Attending wingbowl and supporting an MLE renegade in a non sanctioned contest are two different things

  36. Anonymous said

    January 6, 2012 @ 6:35 pm

Who said Brian Subich is a part of Rick the Manager’s entourage? Maybe he is there to lend some support to Stephanie. Does it really make a damn difference if an MLE eater supports an MLE renegade? So what, the Sheas don’t pay anyone’s salary so they are free to do as they please.
