Peter Mucha's column on philly.com about Wing Bowl 18 announces that tickets will go on sale December 15 on ComcastTix.com. The grand prize has not been finalized but will probably be a car.

This is a total disgrace. Someone should sketch a cartoon of Joey Chestnut with $20,000 check in hand and angelo attemptng to tug it away from him. That’s what it’s all about and nothing else

So it is ok if another organization bans eaters from an event but not if Wing Bowl does it?

I can actually understand restricting it to Philly area-only eaters. Paraphrasing, it’s like Angelo said before, there’s a trade-off between restricting it to Philly-only eaters, whereby lots of national / world-wide recognition is sacrificed, and opening it up nationally, or even universally, thus favoring the latter over ensuring a local winner.
It is a Philly-grown darling, and the organizers have a right to do with WB what they want, regardless of what outsiders think.

In there distorted minds they want everyone to forget that Jarvis, Booker Sonya Joey etc ever existed and start all over again with amateurs. If they kept it the way they had it before they let the pros in it would be a different story but now they want the media and public to believe that the current crop of jokes is major league material? I dont think so

Yeah, I heard the prize is going to be a car too. And, in the true spirit of the event, the car will be a 1987 Chevette, with a vomit scented air freshener, an “I’d Rather be Eating Professionally” bumbersticker, “Asians Go Home” spray painted on the side, and “Showurboobs” license plates. A classy prize for a classy event. Philadelphians should be proud.

Rhonda, you are correct with your statement but it is a shame to keep the local pros out. They are “Local” guys who all brought something to the event and from what it sounds like, still want to be a part of the big Philly event. If these radio swits really wanted a competitive event, there would have been some stimpulation to allow these eaters in, but they continue to say the pros never brought a thing to the show. I can see the insult to the local guys and why it could be taken personal.
Lerman, Jarvis, Sonya, Janus, B.O.B, & Booker are a few of the pros who have gotten screwed in the past so why not just screw them all.
This Angelo guys seems like a real forgetful, high maintenance jerk.
