I’m going to do this one. . .I’m actually terrible at sprints, so I don’t expect to win, but I figure it’s the last chance I’ll have to do an online contest since it probably won’t be long before I have to sign the IFOCE contract. So y’all can expect a video from me.

It’s not necessary to inform us of your every intention.

I’ll admit that probably wasn’t worth posting, but what is your beef with me? I don’t even know who you are since your name says Anonymous. If you want to start something with me, at least tell me who you are.

Agree Kevin, that was a little weird. Chances are “Anonymous” is someone with strong ties to the IFOCE who obviously disagrees with your participation in this contest. Maybe a little jealousy? Who knows. It’s hard to say what would cause someone to lash out like that. Anyhow…good luck.
I TOO MAY ENTER THIS TWINKIE CONTEST. After a test run yesterday during lunch I averaged just a hair under 10 seconds each. Sounds weak I know, but those little suckers are tough to swallow without dunking. I’ll give it another go today.

I hope Anonymous is not in the IFOCE. I communicate with several of the eaters in the IFOCE and get along with them, as far as I can tell. There was one person from AICE who I had a problem with a while back (not going to mention names), so it could be that person. But then again, IFOCE probably doesn’t agree with these type of video contests, so who knows. . .I don’t have a contract with them yet, so I figure it’s well within my rights for now, so I don’t see why they’d be upset. . .as for “who the hell is kevin ross”. . .I’m a starting eater who’s been in one IFOCE contest and several local contests. . .doing the bikini fries in january. . .there’s no reason you should know who I am since I’m very new to the circuit, but hopefully you will soon. That answer your question?

Well, I made a video for the twinkie contest, if anyone is interested (I know you’re not mr. Anonymous, so no need to reply). I’m going to submit it to thinkyoucancompete shortly. I’m kinda embarassed to post it because my time wasn’t very good, but I didn’t want to do a second run because frankly I don’t like ingesting such unhealthy food. So I won’t have the winning time, but at least I’ll be the first one to put the video up and be the one to beat for now.

you said it best at the end of the video, Mr. Ross.
after watching, my heart hurt too — but for different reasons.

I was just trying to make a joke about how twinkies were unhealthy. . .my heart didn’t actually hurt, in case you didn’t get my sarcasm in the video. . .but anyway you obviously object to either online eating contests or all eating contests in general. Or perhaps just to my quirky personality. . .The online contests are a one time deal for me, I’m not going to be doing them in the future. But out of curiousity, would you care to elaborate about why “your heart hurts”?

BECAUSE U BETTER HAVE A BIG BANK ROLL IF YOU PLAN ON TRAVELING AROUND TO IFOCE CONTESTS. YOU WILL NEVER WIN OR COME CLOSE TO THE MONEY EATING LIKE THAT.
NOT TRYING TO BE A DICK OR ANYTHING. FACTS ARE FACTS. YOU JUST DONT HAVE THE EATING TALENT THAT U THINK U DO. TIME TO HAVE A HEART TO HEART WITH YOURSELF ABOUT THAT BEFORE U HUMILIATE YOURSELF AT A PRO TABLE.
MY ADVICE IS TO NOT SIGN THE CONTRACT UNTIL U ACTUALLY WIN SOME OF YOUR LOCAL STUFF. OR ARE U JUST A PUBLICITY HOUND? IF THAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION THEN BY ALL MEANS, SIGN AWAY.

Where is your video Anonymous?
KevinRoss said

I never said I have a large degree of eating talent. Look above. . .I actually wrote “I’m kinda embarassed to post it because my time wasn’t very good”. I realize that the time is easily beatable by lots of people and I have a long way to go and need lots of improvement. I’m not delusional. I don’t think I will win any prize money at an IFOCE contest without improving a HUGE amount – I am realistic enough to know I probably will never improve enough to win prize money. Some VERY good eaters, much better than me, don’t get much prize money.
But I’m not doing it for that. . .I’m just doing it for fun and an excuse to travel. I will certainly try to improve all I can and do the best I can. I’m not going to humiliate myself at a pro table, as you put it. You know why? Because I’m not barging in there thinking I’m going to win like some ass. I’m just a friendly guy and I have confidence in myself and like having a bit of fun. I am only trying to improve upon myself, meet some new friends, and have a good time. If I improve enough in the future to win prize money, that’d be icing on the cake. But if it doesn’t happen, I won’t be kicking myself or regret anything. Anyone with eyes can clearly see I’m putting effort forth and that’s all that matters in the end.
To sum it up, I have enough money to travel and I realize I will be spending money, not making money, to enter the IFOCE contests. But I haven’t seen much of this country and I think this is a great excuse to do so. I have a good job and defintely don’t need eating as any source of income. I genuinely like to eat and like the excitement of the well-promoted IFOCE contests. Let’s not kid ourselves. Other contests don’t have the same degree of excitement and the same level of eaters. I LIKE knowing that somone at the same table as me just ate 3x as much as me. I think it’s exciting to be a part of it.
But, I may improve more than you think and surprise a lot of people. Believe me, there won’t be a lack of effort!
BTW, I also plan on competing in powerlifting and olympic lifting competions this year, even though I’m not strong enough. But guess what? I’ll get good experience, meet a lot of people, and get tips to get better. A couple years down the line, I probably WILL be competitive.
There is only one way to improve. And that’s by getting off your ass and doing it.
I think honestly you’re jealous I have enough balls to do what I am doing. The people that aren’t scared of making fools of themselves are the ones that come out on top in the end. Sitting in your house all huddled under the covers and cowering doesn’t get you anywhere.
I think that is enough explaining myself, and a lot more than you deserve. But I hope this will be enough to get you off my case and make you realize I’m not some delusional guy who thinks he is going to go dominate these contests straight off the bat.
Now, is anybody going to post a video beating me or what? This is my only online contest I’m going to do, so I had at least hoped somebody would come in and beat my time. . .

Kevin pay such brutal comments no mind, except to let them motivate you to continue doing what you’re doing. You WILL improve. Even if takes you a year to make it into the top 25, that’s an accomplishment, especially in today’s competitive eating world. But remember to have fun along the way. And if you don’t accomplish your goal. So what!
The journey is more important than the goal, I would say. So keep things in perspective and keep strokin!

I tried to view the twinkie video but it is completly pitch black. You can tell he used high end video equipment to record this. almost high def quality but he neglected to use proper lighting or forgot to lighten it. Was everyone else able to view it ok?
KevinRoss said

You are actually correct that I used high end video equipment to record this. . . I have no idea how you came to that conclusion because I captured it to the computer with ridiculous compression so it would upload fast, totally ruining the video quality. It is on the dark side as I didn’t bother with any lighting as I figured quality was not too important for this and I just did it very quickly. . .I know it was too dark, but does not show up so dark on my screen that it would be considered anything close to pitch black. Nobody has said anything about this so far, so I have to think it must be coming up extra dark on your screen than it normally would. This is a dumb question, but does messing with the brightness/contrast controls on your monitor help? It may be as simple as that. . .

I DIDNT WANT YOU TO HAVE HIGH EXPECTATIONS AND HAVE A LET DOWN.IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU DONT CARE ABOUT HOW WELL YOU DO SO AS LONG AS YOU DONT HAVE TOO HIGH OF EXPECTATIONS AND ARE JUST GOING TO HAVE FUN AND EXPERIENCE A PRO CONTEST THEN U SHOULD BE HAPPY. THE IFOCE PUTS ON A GOOD SHOW. HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK.

As long as I keep on improving, I won’t have a letdown. I’ll only feel bad if I do worse than I know I’m capable of.

I meant that most of the video was dark espeically his face but you can tell it was high def because the windows and living room area come out real smooth . Ross appears to live quite well from the surrounding

Kevin my monitor is 6rs old which might explain . It is not one of the newer LCD flat screens which might be the problem. If it came out ok on your end while viewing then it is a problem on my end and not yours. When i say its dark i mean i cannot see your face or your stunt at all. Brightness contrast setting adjustment does help. It does little to help me because my PC is from 2003 and the monitor is from 1999. I am virtually helpless.

GOOD LUCK KEVIN. I HOPE THE EATING CIRCUIT IS ALL YOU THINK IT IS. I HOPE YOU FIT IN SOMEWHERE. BE PREPARED TO EXPERIENCE PAIN DURING AND AFTER THE CONTEST. ALSO BE READY TO FEEL REALLY LOUSY AFTERWARDS. I JUST DON’T KNOW WHAT KIND OF MENTAL PICTURE YOU HAVE PAINTED ABOUT WHAT CONTESTS ARE REALLY LIKE. THERE ARE BETTER REASONS TO TRAVEL AND SPEND YOUR MONEY THAN GOING TO EATING CONTESTS. I GUESS YOU WILL ONLY COMPREHEND WHAT I AM SAYING SOON ENOUGH. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE. COMPETITIVE EATING ISN’T GLAMOROUS. YOU WILL SEE. ONCE AGAIN GOOD LUCK

You mean, eating lots of greasy food can make one feel gross afterwards??! Nobody told me this!!! Heh heh. I find it really strange that somebody so negative about competitive eating would continually post on a competitive eating webpage. Like Mega Munch says, I guess I’m a weirdo, but I don’t really mind the discomfort. It does feel good in a weird way and it’s only temporary. I lift weights too. That can be grueling and physically/mentally taxing. But that doesn’t mean I don’t do it. That’s probably because I’m not a little girl, shivering in the corner, afraid to do anything or go outside. Anyway, I think you should man up and stop posting as Anonymous. Why are you hiding?
