Richard Shea fights proposed commuter rail alcohol ban

(Thanks Krista) The New Yorker reports that IFOCE president Richard Shea has founded a group with two other people called called Commuters Allied for Responsible Enjoyment to oppose a proposed ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol on the Long Island and Metro North commuter rail systems. The New Yorker describes Shea’s involvement:

A professional public-relations man, Shea is, by his own admission, an improbable activist. “Normally, I am an opponent and a proponent of nothing,” he said last Thursday night, on the 5:46 to Chappaqua.

The group will have a website at alliedcommuters.com which has yet to open

I personally enjoy having a beer waiting and on my way to (and from) my destinations when I visit there. I am really suprised that the sheas would support something like that. KUDOS!

What Rich Shea is trying to convey in that article ” I am a proponent or opponent of nothing” translated means “If you are an outsider don’t badmouth another human being and expect me to side with you”.One has to wonder if Rich would apply the same quote if brother George or Dave Baer had something negative to say about that same human being

London has some of the hardest-swigging binge drinkers in the world, and we don’t have beer on any of our platforms or commuter trains. Oh hang on, maybe that’s why…

One of the first things I have supported Rich in. Show props where props are due.
