Philly.com on lack of corporate Wing Bowl sponsorship
Philly.com has an article about how the Wing Bowl and competitive eating in general has had difficulty landing national corporate sponsorships.
So, for Wing Bowl, Rayfield courts local advertisers and waits for the other guys to realize what they’re missing. This year WIP came close to signing a national TV deal, he said, and next year he hopes to do more than come close.
“As the person responsible for the event, I like to think I get a little smarter every year,” he said. “Each year it gets bigger, the publicity spreads wider. We’ll keep figuring out better ways to monetize it. But you sort of go where the fish are.”

They organizers need to somehow market it in the Reality TV genre. Coupled with the WWE-like pageantry, that seems to be the way to go.

It might also help if Wing Bowl were a REAL event. I think sponsors prefer to allign themselves with events that aren’t fixed.

I’m pretty sure a bunch of drunks and flashers is the reason.

Ask OJ if he/she and I are one and the same. BTW, I thought Rona and I were the same. Make up your mind!

Rhonda if the known eaters in the IFOCE knew who you were they would be less inclined to jab at you every now and then. The mystery people are the ones that are going to get the heat because everyone fears or feels intimidated by the unknown. This does not apply to only you but other unknown’s , alias’s etc etc. It would be nice if you or OJ would introduce yourself at a contest for it would surely make everyone else feel at home. This mystery stuff is fun but after awhile people are itchy to find out who the hell is Rhonda Evans and who the hell is Luther and who the hell is Oj Rifkin. This is the only competitive eating website where most of the players assume the role of the masked avenger. I have said my piece!

We know one thing is for sure. When the IFOCE hypes an event no matter what it is, be it an eating contest or the wingbowl or even a competitive eating CD, it means that they expect to make a buck from it . They do not hype anything on their website unless there is the potential of a profit from that venue .
