Moe’s Burritos for Life wins Best Marketing award
In its Best of 2006 Advertising/Marketing list, QSR Magazine gave Moe’s Burritos for Life contest, a tournament with first round contests at all Moe’s Southwest Grill franchises, the Best Marketing Off the Menu award. Some eaters who competed in that event, (or attempted to enter and were prohibited) might dispute that claim. 3,000 people are claimed to have competed in the first round.

While it may have been a good idea, the execution & publicity it received, considering the expense & time put in for promotion was horrendous! I’ve heard they will not be repeating the promotion.

I think that DON MOSES LERMAN would be THE BURRITO KING. He would destroy all in his way or wake or whatever.

Their burritos are excellent!
Moe’s
Qdoba
Baja Fresh
Chipotle
They’re all pretty much the same. It just comes down to personal preference.
Know what I mean, Don “moses” Lerman?

Moe’s was fixed. The “Joey Bag of Donuts” Burritos were supposed to be 16 oz. each. After I won the preliminary round, they gave me some extras to bring home. I weighed them on a Pitney Bowes postage scale and they came in at 26 to 30 oz. each. My second round qualifier was done alone with similar oversized burritos with no one else competing with me. My time was 5:10 for four of these. The overall winner came in with 5 burritos in 8 minutes. There is no way I wouldn’t have beaten that with 16 ouncers, but I was not allowed to compete. This was my first eating contest and I got screwed.

There is a Joey bag of donuts burrito, and sad to report, there were no donuts inside when I ate it…..MMMMMM donuts….but, it was still good…..Maybe Kripsy Kreme will come out with a Jose con mucho burritos donut, just to balance things out.
If this was the best marketing award, I’d hate to see what lost….What was it up against,” The Eggs for a Week contest at Publix “, or the ” Free appetizer With $50 purchase at Ruby Tuesday”, or perhaps the “Free All-You-Can use Napkin offer at McDonald’s” – which or course has me upset because of those new hard-to-get-out new napkin dispenser that make you mangle the napkins when they come out.
Even the sound of “Burritos for Life” makes me think of some poor dude becoming a lean, mean, farting machine for the rest of his or her life. Is this supposed to be a prize?? Lonely and smelly is no way to go through life – or at least that’s what my wife constantly threatens me with every time I come home from an eating contest!!
