Forum thread with Kate Stelnick eyewitness

The most convincing evidence that Kate Stelnick did finish the 96er burger in under three hours without assistance is probably found in this fark forum thread in which RSquared18 posts several times. Rsquared18 was a member of Kate’s travel part to Denny’s and the photographer of her eating the giant burger. Rsquared18 says that Kate needed 2:53 to finish the burger, one minute shorter than the official time.

I was with her when she did it. The 4 of us drove almost 5 hours this wensday morning to do this. All the pictures you will see of this have been taken by me. I will post all the pictures of our adventure if someone can help me with hosting/html (i have no idea how to post pictures)

And if one of her best friends says it happened, you know it’s true! Just half kidding, OJ.

I dunno. You can understand where my skepticism is coming from though, right? I mean we’ll probably never know how many MLE eaters are capable of eating Denny’s 11 or 12 pound burger, but we do know that the great Badlands Booker attempted it THREE TIMES and failed to finish it in the three hour time limit (he would eventually conquer it in seven and a half hours).

Maybe I just don’t want to believe that a college kid (a Ivy-Leaguer at that!) can swoop in there and outeat one of the greatest of all time. I SHOULD be open to that scenario, because I love a good “out of the blue” story…but it’s hard to swallow.

I know it’s probably a pipe dream, but it would be neat if MLE would work something out with Denny’s so we could all find out. You know, make a big event of it. Today’s top eaters, I feel, would certainly have a strong chance of finishing that thing. No offense at all to Booker, but some of the eaters out here now well exceed his capacity. If for some reason, nobody could do it, then I’d be inclined to disbelieve the Kate thing. But ya never know. I’m convinced there is people out there that can outeat Kobayashi even in the capacity department, but they’re off in the middle of nowhere or don’t know they can (or don’t want to) compete. I’m sure there is a major amount of untapped eating talent out there. But yeah, it sure would be interesting to find out what everyone could do with that monstrous thing. All I know now, is that I most defintely can NOT and I don’t even have to get near the burger to know that 🙂

I think its unlikly she did it on her own, w/the same “fixin’s” as the more established eaters. I A) think she had help from the friends that were with her. B) I think the people @ Denny’s thought it was a joke, & made a smaller burger,& /or less condiments. C) She hasn’t done anything since. D) Some of the best eaters in the world, tried & failed…miserably.

I don’t think she goes, or went to Princeton, she’s from the town.

Until Kate does something to prove this it will always be skeptism all the way.

Gentleman Joe; what motivation would the owners have had to make a smaller burger? They charge a good deal of money for those burgers and profit by selling them. They are only free if you suceed in finishing one. It would be in their best interest to NOT make it easier for people.

hmm kevin i bet the owners would clearly see the motivation in making a smaller burger for a very cute girl who can make the claim and then get some media attention. i bet it paid off for them over and over if this is what happened.

Well, you may have a point, but do you really think they thought that someone with no experience out of the blue would have been able to even tackle a slightly smaller burger? I just think accusing them of this is not fair, as there is zero proof. I like going with innocent until proven guilty. . .but it seems a lot of people don’t feel the same way. . .

I can’t comment on the burger but I did witness Kate eat 2 or 3 big pizzas, a whole bunch of fries, and probably a gallon of soda at a pizza challenge in NJ. This was in the Spring of ’05. She can definitely eat.

In the spirit of diplomacy, can all the guys here at least agree that we’d like to make out with her while she has giant burger remnants all over her face? Hmmm, maybe I should have kept that one to myself. . .

The controversy of it keeps them in the spot light in perpituity. Or atleast it has so far. I’m not definitively saying it was smaller, or that she had help, etc. just that one or more of those scenerios is likely. I don’t even say they made it smaller on purpose, they just slapped it together, from looking at the crowd trying it,(Kate & her friends) thought that none of them had a chance.

On the other side, i’m sure Booker’s burger & other “pro’s” was intentionally larger, or atleast weighed properly

Example: Pinatas advertises their burritos as 3lbs each. When the guy weighed mine in front of me, @ my request, they weighed 9.5lbs. He tried to say the plastic tray weighed 3.5lbs. He then weighed the tray separately. It weighed half a lb. So, I did 9lbs for a supposedly 6lb challenge. In no way am I saying others didn’t have the same liability, but I’m quite sure others had less, particularly before anyone had completed it. The guy doesn’t want to constantly give away free food!!?

If it was 6lbs I may have given Cookies record a run. Eating 50% more gave me no chance.

No comment from Lerman necessary. I know he did it 1st, w/Krazy Kevin & that his time was better than mine. I’m sure his weighed alot closer to 6lbs than mine did though.

Joe, one thing I can say about Pinata’s is I wish it were closer to Staten Island. I have gone back there a few times, just to pick up a few monster burritos to take out. Best burritos I have ever had, expecially the steak monster burrito. Can’t beat ’em for $12.95 each. Eating one when hungry really takes the edge off the hunger. I usually go there hungry and it takes 1.5 to really fill me up, but I don’t eat them for speed when buying them for a meal. I recently went back for my birthday with Lorraine, my mother and my sister and brother-in-law and nephew and they all loved it. My sister, brother-in-law and nephew drove close to 6 hrs round trip to go out there. You are right about some of these capacity challenges. When I took a bunch of people out to Denny’s Beer Barrell a few years ago, we weighed all of them and the weight with all the fixings varied between about 9.5 pounds and 12 pounds.
Most of these restaurants do it for fun and would I guess are just eyeballing the mountain of food to determine how big to make it. Denny is a good guy and I seriously doubt whether he would intentionally make it smaller. What I really find amazing is if this Gal Sone is for real, eating 20 lbs of food in one sitting seems unreal for someone who is 95 lbs. Should like she could eat 7 of the monster burritos in one sitting at Pinatas or two of the Denny’s burgers in one sitting.

At any rate, I don’t really thing eating 20 lbs of food in one sitting is really doing anyone any good. 5 or 10 lbs or even 12 lbs is one thing, 20 lbs is insane. I think the IFOCE 12 minutes contests are not long enough for anyone to really hurt themselves capacity wise, but in Japan these challenges to eat 20 lbs can hurt someone eventually.

    continued-

When I was there a couple of weeks ago at Pinata’s with my family, Don also came over to wish me a happy birthday and joined us for some burritos . Don is only a couple of minutes away from Pinatas and has joined me for all my post-challenge visits to Pinata’s. He also ate 1.5 burritos and took back .5 burritos for Cami. Cami herself is also quite an eater. Speaking of canine competitions……..

A few years ago I floated the idea of a special Nathan’s canine qualifier and if Nathan’s ever decides to do this, Cami, Sabrina and Rascal are ready. In fact, as far as canine competitions are concerned…… If Kobi has the stomach for it, as Don, Crazy Legs and Tim Janus have proven they do, Cami, Sabrina and Rascal will take on Kobi in Alpo anytime.

As far as me personally being interested in eating Alpo, I love my dogs but am going to pass. I have read the labels on the cans. 🙂

Sabrina and Rascal have heard the contents and don’t seem to mind. But as far as cross species consumption of Alpo, both for speed eating as Don did and savoring with crackers as Crazy Legs and Tim Janus did, I am going to leave that to Don, Crazy Legs and Tim Janus. 🙂

I agree that making out with Kate is a more viable scenario. 100 percent likelihood of that happening.

If anyone watched the honeymooner episode of Ralph’s boss nearly puking his dog food appetizer when he found out that Kranmars mystery appetizer was indeed dog food , i cannot see how anyone would want to eat that shit.
