Kobayashi goes to Taiwan

(Pictures are from Kobayashi’s trip to a night market, not the contest)

Kobayashi reports that he attended, but did not compete in, a mutton eating contest held on December 8 in Taiwan. This year’s winner ate 26 bowls, less than half of the 55 bowls Kobayashi consumed when he won the contest last year. A bonus of a million Taiwan dollars (about $30,000 US) would have been awarded had Kobayashi’s record been broken. Kobayashi said he intends to compete in next year’s mutton contest.

Google News of Taiwan has some articles about the contest (translated)

Kobayashi has made blog entries about all his contests, but it is now a month since the Turkey Bowl was televised, and he has provided no commentary on that event. Kobayashi’s last post about United States competitive eating was his tribute to Kevin Lipsitz in early November.

Very interesting that Koby can participate in whatever contest he pleases, which I am sure the IFOCE doesn’t always know about. Koby has so many records that are not recognized by the ifoce. WHy don’t they give him the props he deserves? Is it because they didnt have their people to weigh and host the contest? I thought the IFOCE was an international federation? IF so, then they should have more international contests and officials stationed in other countries. As far as I know, there was a british eater ranked 50 once and the other international eaters were probably Koby, Shirota and the other Japanese guy who had a record once in HDB’s back in the days. It seems as though the IFOCE is moreso an American Federation that welcomes international eaters. They did the mudpie or that contest that Sonya won in England and that ohter contest in Japan or China that Sonya also won when the Commisioner attended it. I still believe the IFOCE is the best league out there and will always be, but I just hope there will be more contests and international contests to see what other eaters around the world can do. My friend who is from Nigeria says he knew of people in Nigeria that can really tear it up in eating. He also said that over there, they even eat the bones on some of the meats there. That would be something for OJ to look more into, which I am sure OJ may find something on that.

You have to wonder why there were very few blacks in competitive eating especially the IFOCE. Its like playing for a hockey team
