Horsemen of the Esophagus / Jason Fagone web site
Jason Fagone has set up a web site at http://jasonfagone.com/ offering information about his upcoming book, Horsemen of the Esophagus. Fagone will have two book signings in Philadelphia in April and another in New York City in May. He intends to place information on his website that did not make the final revision of the book.

Did anyone else read the few pages of the Nerz book on Amazon.com? To be completely honest, I thought it reads more like a meandering blog entry than anything. I will definitely be picking up both books though…
I know most of you guys are insiders and have your reasons for not supporting one book or the other, but I think its important for the good of the sport that you recommend either to the general public. You guys are a truly fascinating subculture, and hopefully your stories will be more widely shared because of Nerz and Fagone’s efforts.

I wouldn’t count on Nerz to be too objective in his book. He was, after all, on the IFOCE payroll as an event promoter when he wrote it. Fagone, on the other hand, seems like he will take a more neutral stance…covering the sport as an outsider looking in. This also means he didn’t have the same unlimited access to the pros that Nerz had. Fagone did, however, spend half a day with Kobayashi in Japan, but admits that he didn’t come away with much worth writing about. How is that possible?!

People want to hear dirt and nothing but dirt. The only competitive eating book that will sell is a disgruntled tell all book by someone that works or worked in the IFOCE office. Remember Jim Bouton ball four and sparky Lyle book the bronx zoo?
