Takeru Kobayashi is not the only person to be arrested in conjunction with the Nathan's finals. Motherboard.Vice.com reports David Quinones was jailed for five hours for flying his drone near (but not over) the 2015 Nathan's finals. Even though he was never charged, the FAA suspended Quinone's license for his manned plane.

Kobayashi arrest was so unnecessary when you look back.Heres a man that basically put sport on the map and thats the thanks he gets? A very unhappy ending to a story which had a very prosperous beginning

It would be interesting to know Kobayashi’s legal status. He was arrested in 2010. His visa for special talent (not often given) was for three years with option to renew for two, I believe. Americans can go to Japan for 90 days on a tourist visa without paperwork before which means he can do the same. Maybe he leaves in less than 90 days so he can re-enter the US. I am sure he isn’t going to become a citizen.

we should treat japanese visitors to AMERICA like the japanese treat AMERICANS. its a disgrace what they do. 90 days? And they dont like americans or any foreigners? why should we give kobayashi or any other of his people special treatment? what is his special talent right now besides sitting on his ass making no money, feeding off taxpayers (that’s our AMERICAN money), and being unproductive. screw bloodsuckers and useless illlegals like him. TRUMP NATION!
