Former Yankee and White Sox player Ron Blomberg, best known as the first designated hitter in Major League Baseball History, announced his desire to cross over into competitive eating. In 1971, Murray Chass of the New York Times wrote a column about his eating feats, which included a 72 ounce steak in North Carolina.
