Victory for Eater X at Buffalo Wing Festival predicted?

The Carolina Hurricanes / Whalers defeat of the Buffalo Sabres in the NHL Eastern Conference Finals might presage victory for Whalers fan Tim “Eater X” Janus in the Buffalo Wing Festival Labor Day weekend. It is difficult to determine what might be foreshadowed by a Carolina victory over the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup finals unless a vegetable oil drinking contest is scheduled.

    Carolina almost lost to a team playing without 5 starters. We were without our #2 center and 4 of our top 6 defensemen. 4 of our 6 defensemen were just called up from our AHL minor league farm team (Rochester) in the last two weeks. (I hear the Hurricanes want to play the Rochester Amerks for the calder Cup next.) On the day of the 7th and final game of the Eastern Conference Finals, the RBC website announced “There are still good seats available.” Buffalo sold out all home games in 12 minutes. 2000-3000 Buffalo fans drove 12 hours to each game in Carolina, and they called us rude because we “Cheered too loud.” What a bunch of sissies. I’ll give Tim a pass beacause he’s a nice guy, and he was a fan from a reasonable sports town, but when we meet again, I won’t be 5 men short and I’ll crush him at the festival.

    I didn’t want Carolina to win either. Peter Karmanos gave Connecticut the finger when he took the Whalers to Carolina and renamed them the Hurricanes. Raleigh’s not a hockey town, but Hartford was, and no one who grew up there when The Whale was around will ever cheer for Carolina.

    But I still hope their success bodes well for me in Buffalo.

    Having made a living off the Whale, I agree with everything Tim wrote. The sob moved to Carolina to be the 6th favorite sport in the region.
