Sheboygan bratwurst contest (with Kobayashi) to be televised on ESPN

The Sheboygan Press reports that ESPN will broadcast the finals of the Johnsonville Bratwurst contest on August 5 at 4 pm Eastern. Kobayashi will compete in the contest. Press Release

Updated 1:34 PM – registration for the 20 person lottery for the last five entrants to that contest is now open.

    I know the results already: Koby, Joey, Sonya — then Eater X, Chip Pat Bertoletti, and Rich will fight it out for the remaining positions. It will be the same for Krystals. Koby will eat as many brats as HDBs. No suspense there.

    I wish Koby swould how up for Lobster, Oysters, or Eggs, where Sonya would truly give Koby a run for it. But great eaters are great eaters at ALL foods, so Koby would still probably win.

    I hear ya Rhonda. Koby eating hot dogs and Koby eating brats isn’t much of a stretch. Pretty exciting to see him getting over the US for other contests though.

    You have to wonder, which came first: Koby’s decision to participate in the Johnsonville Brats contest or ESPN’s decision to air it? I’ll bet they were lined up as part of the same deal. Koby needs a reason to come here (international television coverage) and ESPN needs a reason to air competitive eating (Koby vs. Chestnut II: The Battle of the Brats).

    pay out to 10th and you won’t see anyone eat just 1

    It will surely be billed as Koby vs Joey II (or III, counting last year’s Krystals). And even though Dogs and Brats may not be Sonya’s best foods, I don’t think she is going to exactly write herself off as not being able to finish higher than third.

    I do expect her to be much closer to Koby and Joey in Brats, versus dogs, however. She ate 34 1/2 last year. This year I expect the winner will eat around 50 – 55. I expect Sonya to eat 40+. And Tim, Pat B, and Chip will probably do close to what Sonya ate last year.

    It’s nice to see that there is money for the top 10 spots, because there are so many great eaters now. This sport should be like golf, prize-monet-wise, so that the top 10 or so finishers can earn some money.

    Speaking of which, I really wish all of the top 5 – 10 eaters would boycott Nathan’s next year. Damned if that wouldn’t send a message!

    What is Kobayashi’s hometown? Some sites say Nagano and other sites say Nagoya. Which one is it?
