To be eligible for the eating challenger of the year, someone needs to have at least two successful publicized challenges in 2010. I will add anyone to the poll who has done this if requested.

Here are my observations. Male and Female Eaters of the year with Joey and Sonya are right on.
Now it gets tricky with Male Rookie of the Year. While both Matt Stonie and Randy Santel had impressive independent years I think the ROY has to go to a professional MLE eater. That leaves Sean Brockert, Gary Klucken, Aaron Osthof and Adrian Morgan. I think it comes down to head to heads and after looking at results and finishes it comes down to Aaron and Adrian. Head to head they are 1-1 with Adrian coming out on top in tamales and Aaron coming out on top in moonpies. Both had great finishes against eaters ranked higher than them. Aaron came onto the scene late in the year so his ranking will most likely be higher in 2011(only #31 right now) and Adrian had a full year of competitions and is poised to be a threat to break into the top 10. Coin flip in my book. I think the future is bright for both of these eaters. Due to the overwhlming amount of support that the Wrecking Ball gets I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins the poll.
Female Rookie of the Year using my same logic as Male ROY goes to Larrel Marie Mele. She seems like a very positive person with a great attitude and seems to be a favorite with fans and other eaters alike.
Top Male Challenger is another tough catgory to pick. I think since MLE eaters are not supposed to do challenges it automatically eliminates Pat Bertoletti and Ben Monson. Based on the amount of visibility he has gained through this website you would think that Matt Stonie has the upperhand. Not only is he dominating challenges but also winning every independant contest he enters. Randy Santel has had lots of visibility from this site and concentrates on midwest challenges but I don’t think he has been in any contests. I say Matt Stonie wins this category.
Top Female Challenger is another stacked category. I think it Stephanie Torres that deserves the nod. Lots of exposure from this site. She seems very likeable and dominates challenges. Looks like lately she has been doing multiple challenges in 1 day (a la Randy Santel).
Comeback award goes to The Locust. I have heard and calls for others but based on the Meatballs finish late in the year he proved he still has it and can come back and be a force to reckon with whenever he wants. I was impressed.

anony 6:04 maybe you are living in the dark ages or a bomb shelter. Seiken apologized to OJ on more than one occasion in emails. At one point early this year Seiken removed all derogatory remarks about eatfeats and OJ still ignored it. If Seiken was to do the same now , OJ would continue to ignore. It doesnt pay to be nice because assholes deserve whats coming to them. Some just refuse to forgive and forget. Happy New Year

Really what does any of this prove? A little ego boost for the new males or females? Everyone knows that like the recent top 25 poll it serves no purpose whatsoever. 6 out of the 8 female rookies will basically pay it no mind while the other two or maybe one will lobby like a politician to please vote for her.

Thanks for the nice comments and I am honored to be mentioned with Adrian, Gary, Aaron, Randy and Matt. I agree with the previous comment that eaters that do challenges and eaters that compete should be two seperate catagories. Those guys that do challenges are beasts but rarely to we (being MLE) compete against them. That being said I know I have a lot of members of the “Wrecking Crew” that will turn out and vote for me but I would cast my vote for Adrian, in my opinion he is a little underrated and I think he has the talent to be a real force in CE.
For female ROY of course my vote goes out to Larell Marie but the females in this catagory are all great eaters and from the ones I have talked to all seem to be great people too.
I honestly dont follow the challenge aspect of CE too much so I am not sure if I can make an educated pick for male and female challenger of the year but by looking at the list but you cant go wrong picking any of them.
I love the pick for Sonya as female competitve eater of the year but I am not toally sold on Joey being the only choice for male. I know he is hands down the best eater in the world but was he the most sucessful of this year. I think both Pat and Bob need to at least be mentioned in this catagory. If you take just 2010 I am almost certain that Pat won more than Joey and I know Pat holds more records than anyone. I already see the argument that Joey had all his Pepto stuff and that lead him to not be able to compete as much as Pat and Bob but oh well. In really think that this year Pat showed us that he is an outstanding eater and has beaten Joey a few times head to head. I think if this is a career award give it to Joey but if we are basing it only on 2010 both Pat and Bob need to be mentioned.
The Brat said
January 2, 2011 @ 11:28 am
Pat did not beat Joey a single time 2010.

January 2, 2011 @ 11:57 am
Pat is not even in Joey’s league. When Joey’s on, and when there’s not a judging mistake, no one currently in the IFOCE can routinely touch him. Yes, there are exceptions, but they’re exactly that, exceptions, not the rule. Joey is at the top, with a bit of a pile up at the second tier, which includes Pat, Bob, Tim, and Sonya.

Top Male Challenger is another tough catgory to pick. I think since MLE eaters are not supposed to do challenges it automatically eliminates Pat Bertoletti and Ben Monson.
But it is not up to OJ or you to enforce what is MLE’s rule. His job is to make an objective poll of those that are nominated for the category and qualify according to his eligibility standards:
“To be eligible for the eating challenger of the year, someone needs to have at least two successful publicized challenges in 2010. I will add anyone to the poll who has done this if requested.”
If these pro eaters want to do eating challenges and can get away with it, more power to them. Any dispute is between the eater and MLE, and is not our concern.

That to me is not considered a challenge if you pay for your conquest
Why not? Quite a few of the challenges listed in OJ’s database require you to pay for the meal, win or lose. Your prize for completing the challenge can be a t-shirt or a pic on the wall.
BTW, many head-to-head eating contests also require payment in the form of an entry fee.

Considering the other names on the list, I really shouldn’t even be a candidate for top male eating challenger of 2010… unless the dominant factor of consideration is the sheer volume of challenges attempted and completed (which even I don’t have handy). Otherwise, in any sort of head-to-matchup, you gotta give your vote to one of the other guys.
Matt Stonie is a dominant candidate given his powerful performances. I don’t know if Ben Monson did any actual restaurant challenges in 2010… Johnnie Excel needs to be put on this list as well.

I have decided as a peace offering to remove all negative commentary from my blog in regard to this website. It will take some time to remove everything in its entirety but be patient. I realize i have conformed to the same standard in the past but then went back on my word and continued to post negative commentary. This is not a ploy by any means to get OJ Rifkin to hype my website or any future updates i happen to post. The administrator of this site plugged my website on a consistant basis for nearly 4yrs so in that sense i appreciate that very much. There were times in the past in which i was extremely upset with some of the personal comments directed towards me and let him know about via email but even through thick and thin he still plugged my updates. One thing about me is that i never forget the little things. The administrator has never taken personal potshots against me using his blog as an assault weapon so in all fairness i did play dirty. I wont take the full blame for everything because the haters contributed to my reasons for lashing out. The continued negative energy on my behalf just makes things worse and does nothing to solve the problem. Some of that childish behavior on my part accomplishes very little but detract future fans from visiting my site. Loyal fans of my website are just that. Regardless of what i say about eatfeats they will always be my loyal fans. How do i know that? I check my stat page at least 3 to 4 times per week and the proof is there. If you dont believe me i update my stat page every two weeks just to give the fans an idea of how im doing. Let OJ Rifkin do his thing and ill do my thing. I apologize for sabotaging some of the threads with unrelated rants while causing problems with the fans that visit this site on a frequent basis . Of course some of you will refuse to buy into this because you have been programmed to hate no matter what. All i can say is time will tell. I made a promise i intend to keep it.

OJ you did a noble thing listening to all the suggestions. It is funny, however, seeing Dale Boone’s name paired with Joey Chestnut’s for Male EoY. If I didn’t already know it was a poll, saw those names, and had to guess what they had in common I’d guess it was a pairing of the best male professional eater in the U.S. and the only one known in India. It really makes me laugh.

For ROY im voting for one of these 3…….David Brunelli, Mike Longo or Matt Stonie…… All three of these guys has a great resume and dont get very much attention. Longo and Stonie have some decent youtube videos so that gives them a plus also. I just like how these three guys have great talent and you dont ever see them bashing anyone on here. Im gonna have to think about this a little harder…. do I go with all of Longo’s AICE wins or do I go with Stonie’s awesome performance against The Goose Gilbert and his challenge victories????
NReda said
January 4, 2011 @ 2:18 pm
I think Stonie’s received a lot of attention on this site. That’s not a reason to vote for or against him as ROY, but I would pick him based on his explosive debut. Lots of challenge wins in a short span, lots of restaurant records smashed, and a few decent contest victories… including a close one over The Goose. Matt’s debut reminded me in many ways of Ben Monson. Maybe one day we’ll see them clash.

Matt Stonie also beat Patrick Vandam’s total on corn dogs and ate more than Rich Lefevre’s IFOCE record.
Damon Wells said
January 4, 2011 @ 3:22 pm
If everything was created equally (contests and challenges lumped together for ROY) IMO it boils down to two, Adrian Morgan and Matt Stonie…
Adrian Morgan came on strong right from the get go, his only weak performance was in crawfish (and as we all know that contest has never been even close to accurate). He’s beaten names like Booker, CLC, LaRue, Marquez and Denmark. Adrian doesn’t get much pub because the only time you hear about him doing anything is in competition where a few bigger names like the top 6 or 7 compete. While on the other hand
Matt Stonie, does a lot of challenges and finishes in what seems to be impressive times, has YouTube videos being uploaded often and thus gets pub on eatfeats. Yes he beat Goose Gilbert in Lobster Rolls, but also only ate 13 HDB’s in 10 minutes to qualify for Lobster rolls. Holding the record for a restaurant nobody really knows about isn’t that huge of a feat, now if it’s a restaurant that has had big names come in and do their challenge for a fast time like the Kooky Canuck (Pat B, Chestnut), Heart attack grill (Chestnut, Monson) , Pizza Party (Chestnut, Monson, Booker, Hunt and Denmark) or Burritozilla (Pat B, booker, Chestnut) (the last two happen to be in Stonies backyard btw) then it would be easier to gage just how good that time is… I will admit I like some of Stonies YouTube concepts, the ideas are there but he’s not that interesting to watch…
Don’t get me wrong Stonie has a ton of talent but I think head to head overall talent, Adrian barely nudges him out. Hopefully Matt doesn’t take my opinion person, but if he does, then oh well.
