I just sent in a correction to the Acme people regarding Sonya’s bio info. They have her name spelled Sonja and her resident state as North Carolina. Also, they say nothing about her breaking Boyd Bulot’s 4-hour endurance record with 52 oysters. She ate the additional 6 dozen within a few minutes of downing the 46 dozen in 10.
I am sure that if Sonya had 30 minutes, the girl would knock back 70 dozen.
In my opinion, Sonya’s 46 dozen oysters in 10 minutes is easily one of the top two or three eating perfomances of all time.
Not only were the oysters that year extremely large, Acme oysters is an honest contest in which it is obvious if the oysters are eaten or not. There is no dunking, pre-chewing, or wearing the oysters as part of one’s wardrobe—-and no half-eaten oysters.
The Japanese love seafood. Let’s have a handicap match —- the witch AND the Gal vs Sonya in a 30-minute event.
By the way, Juliet is a hell-of-an oyster eater herself!
